Amaranth: A Dream

Once, there was a maiden...

...whose battles called her far from home.
She slew the thing she feared most, and conquered the land that feared her.
As she fought, far away, she knew her children needed guidance.
She knew they faced tyrants.
She knew they faced fear.
In her homeland, things were broken.
So, she held up her hand before the sun, and cast a shadow on the world, and drowned the troubles of her home in darkness.

"Survival's a long reach," she said.

RULES and CHECK-IN

[ When you arrive, your phone lights up with the poem above, labeled The Sutra of the Maiden at War. Beneath it is the following message:
Once there was a maiden, who became a mother.
Once there was a mother, who sheltered her home in the darkness of sleep.

Find the seeds of what is true, and cultivate them to help her wake.
Not all dreams must be broken, but there is one truth above all others which she must not deny.
Aid her in bearing witness, and the prison will shatter.

Your phone will not move from this screen; for the time being, all other functions have been disabled.

Neither your abilities from your unit nor any powers you remember from home are functioning, but you do feel a new sort of power in you: vital essence that turns the world around you to something impossibly vibrant. You know that you can tap into this power as naturally as breathing and that with it, you can do incredible things. ]

Exaltation: Lunar, No Moon Caste
Pick an animal. At will, you may transform into a beast-person of that type, granting you enhanced physical capabilities and a small degree of combat regeneration.
As a No Moon, you can enhance your ability to solve enigmas by considering them in unusual ways.
The occult comes naturally to you, and you may also perform sorcery, letting you send messages swiftly, use magical attacks on the battlefield, and summon and speak with elementals.

This is a wild power, and ordinary people may regard it with suspicion depending on how it is used, but you know it is not evil. To the contrary, it is a gift from Luna—the moon her/themself.

OOC Note: Using this stuff is totally optional. It may help you in spots, but the scenario isn't designed to depend on it.

Exaltation: Solar, Eclipse Caste
They're your canon powers. You know what to do.
In fact, you are pretty sure that anything a (low-mid essence) social primary solar can do is something you could convince this dream to allow you.

OOC Note: Using this stuff is totally optional. It may help you in spots, but the scenario isn't designed to depend on it.

Exaltation: Exigent, Chosen of a god of protection.
Unlike other Princes of the Earth, your power is unique to you—a personal gift from a god in a time of crisis.
When you use your power, what colors and images glow around you?

As a result of your exaltation, your powers are limited in scope, but very potent within those limits.
If it has to do with shielding or protecting others or shouldering their burdens, you can do it. A notable exception is magical healing: you can perform battlefield triage and greatly speed the healing process, but not instantly heal someone outright.

OOC Note: Using this stuff is totally optional. It may help you in spots, but the scenario isn't designed to depend on it.

Exaltation: Lunar, Full Moon Caste
Pick an animal. At will, you may transform into a beast-person of that type, as much as twice as tall as a human, granting you greatly enhanced strength, as well as a small degree of combat regeneration.
As a Full Moon, you may freely make up any stunts you like involving the following: temporarily enhancing raw physical ability (e.g. strength or agility), surviving against the odds, and understanding nature.

This is a wild power, and ordinary people may regard it with suspicion depending on how it is used, but you know it is not evil. To the contrary, it is a gift from Luna—the moon her/themself.

[ okkkk. ggggood morning.

checking his phone, reading the poem over a few times before looking around . . .

no sense in staying still: he'll follow the red camellias as far as he can to the direction of the village, although he'll prioritize going to the village over the flowers if the stream splits away ]

[ The stream does split away at one point, in fact: there's a smaller branch that continues towards the town, and a second that rejoins the larger river.

At the center of the river, there's a small island with a shrine, surrounded by an idyllic-looking garden. It looks like there was once a stone bridge that connected there, but now all that remains of it are a few beautifully carved stone posts.

To the town, though!
It's bustling with prosperity, with wildflowers blooming at the corners of the streets. It's pretty much Sengoku era cottagecore. There are plenty of people here, smiling and chatting with one another. ]

[ it's pretty.

she's struck by it, briefly - there's a while she has to just linger and observe the scenery, the sights and sounds and scent of fresh spring air, each previously experienced in only scant glances or the print of some book, and it's dazzling, but

she recalls the text on her phone, recalls that there's a task at hand, and tries her utmost not to get distracted following the stream and flowers, heading instead for the village. ]

[ I LIED THERE'S A SHRINE THE SHRINE IS MORE URGENT TO CHECK OUT. he'll peek into see the town first, not entering it, before he turns around to go check out the garden . . . how far away is the shrine, like, is it a jumpable distance or nah ]

[ Definitely not jumpable: this is a major river, after all. You can get a closer look at the remains of the bridge, though.

In fact, upon closer inspection, it looks less like a bridge that was destroyed and more like one that was started but never finished: the two stone posts here are beautifully maintained. They have been engraved with a design showing seeds that grow into blooming trees.

On the shore of the island, it looks like there's a pair of stone posts to match. ]

Re: BEGIN: The Road to Sange Village

[personal profile] fallingflowers 2020-08-02 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Of course not! Why would it burn?

Some part of you is aware that it's not as if you have no reason at all to be nervous: there was a time when you would have been hunted as Anathema if the people here were aware of the true nature of your Exaltation. Now, though, there is peace.

As you walk towards the village, for a time, For a time, the stream and the path align with each other. However, eventually, there's a smaller branch that continues towards the town, and a second part of the stream that rejoins the larger river.

Which way? ]

[ At least at first glance, they seem to have distinct faces, though families tend to look a lot alike.

The people here are generally dark-haired, but skin and eye color varies greatly. Also, almost all of them are really tall—generally in the range of 5'8"-6'5", with a few even taller.

There are fathers holding their children's hands as they walk to the market, sometimes joined by mothers as well. A few guards are posted, but they seem notably relaxed, as if their presence is mostly a formality. ]

[ . . .

this is a nice place.

stepping through the market, just kind of looking around idly—amaranth isn't that tall, so if he were to catch her he should look out for smaller people, but also maybe he just wants to like, hang out for a bit ]

Re: BEGIN: The Road to Sange Village

[personal profile] fallingflowers 2020-08-02 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's no way across, at least not without being a very strong swimmer. Probably better not to risk it. However, upon closer inspection, it looks less like there's the beginnings of a bridge here, albeit one that has been left incomplete. Specifically, there are two stone posts here, each well-maintained and engraved with a design showing seeds that grow into blooming trees.

The wildflowers are easy to identify! Why, there's lavender, and coriander, and amaranth, and iris—
Actually, some of these definitely shouldn't be native to this area. But if she keeps looking, Aradia can find instances of flowers from every LiliS member, past and present, along the path and even in the town proper. ]
