[Hmm, is there anything to collect tomatoes in that she can see? A - well, a basket, for example. Baskets are useful, aren't they?
[Wednesday's going to head over to the gardening tools and, uh, see what she can see, maybe. Everything about this seems perfectly normal, doesn't it? Even peaceful, so far.]
The well is stone, and relatively ordinary—roughly-hewn. It's dug down deep enough that the light doesn't reach the bottom.
If you lean close to the well... well, you can hear a distant susurration of voices. Like someone calling to you from far away, but muffled. Like speaking through layers and layers of earth.
[She could have sworn she heard voices. In fact, it sounds a little as if a multitude of Timmies are stuck down this well and are having a debate on how to get out. Wednesday leans a little further over the rim of the well, in the belief that it might, somehow, help.
[... would using the flash on her phone help with the light issue?]
it's very, very dark. but with the light on your phone, you can see a little bit more—it looks larger and more cavernous than you'd expect a well to be. like it goes into the depths of the earth.
[ You turn the crank to lower the bucket down into the well for water. It goes down, down, down...
...and then you feel the tension change slightly, like it's dropped properly into the water. When you start hauling it back up, it definitely feels heavier.
There's also a sort of... the sound of the crank sounds wrong, doesn't it? Like someone's death croak in your ears.
But when the bucket reaches the top, it's just full of water. The water smells... funny... but that's probably a function of it not being modern tap water, right? ]
[ well, the water smells... a little earthy, maybe, and a little... well, there's a sort of tang of metal, like there's a lot of iron content in the water, or something. ]
[Yes, this is a little nervous-making, but she's sure she can do this...! Wednesday tests the rope just to be certain, then climbs down after Cardinal.
[Of course it's damp and scary and the walls are slippery and it promptly feels like a really bad idea, but not quite so bad of an idea as letting Cardinal go down a weird well full of whispering voices by themselves, so here she is

[She picks it up.
[Hey what happens if she looks down the well?]

[... you know what she saw Thorn here. Let's fetch some water and. Fetch Thorn.]

[... probably who isn't Shrike.]

[She gestures them over to the edge of the well.]
I... think someone should see this...
[She holds her phone/torch over the rim of the well again.]
That's... not right, is it?
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
[She holds up the bucket.]
I mean... it looks okay, but... water shouldn't smell of anything, should it? And there was this weird noise when I drew it, too.
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
[And indeed they will take a sip out of the bucket.]
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
It definitely doesn't taste good.
I'll just have to go down. Would you mind spotting me, Wednesday?
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
[It's scary, but...]
I think it would be safer with the two of us? I'm not good at much, but I run a lot. Even without powers I could get back here fast, now.
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
Good idea. Two is better than one.
[They take a moment to test and examine the rope, and find some way to tie it off.]
Let's go before Shrike gets back. I have a feeling she'll try and stop us.
[They're grab the rope and start climbing down.]

[Deep breaths, Wednesday!
[Wait, what's normally down wells, anyway?]
Re: THE FIELD & GARDEN
mystery.
also for some reason the bleeding hand isn't hindering, just... well, it still hurts and it still bleeds.
and down you go. ]
