—The world is ugly, he once declared.

Chaos is inevitable in this world. Pure good can’t be achieved, and pure evil breaks down. And these two extremes are always incompatible with each other. There is still some evil in a good world. That is how the world is, and it is what continues to create ugly things. Evil sneers at good, and good rages over evil. But, in a world where good and evil oppose each other, there is a group that is far more numerous that always appears.

That is ‘grey’. Neither good nor evil. A group that drifts through life haphazardly and merely exists. They don’t believe in goodness and are simply proud that they aren’t evil. Even though they affirm evil acts, they deny evil intentions. They happily say that ‘I am not evil, I am a good person’ and pardon all forms of cruelty.

They kill people while sneering. They kill people out of contempt. They kill people as part of a game. They use the excuse that they can’t restrain their desires—That’s how humans are. That’s how the world is.

Yes—this world is extremely ugly. Neither dyed by good nor fallen into evil. Unable to decide on a color, the wills of people continue to waver. As long as such evil intentions and such foul-smelling corpses aren’t destroyed.

The world will surely continue to rot eternally.

While wrapped within a curse-like fog in darkness frozen to its core.

He thus concluded.

The question has him pause.

"Before, I was an instructor of the sword. But this world doesn't need swords now, so they don't need me to do that anymore. I can pursue what I've always wanted to do." ]

[Cocks her head]

Oh yeah? What happened, how'd swords get canceled?

[ "This humble painter doesn't know much—but one day, a great structure was brought to this world from another. He used it to bring about peace—and now, there is no need for war in this land." ]

Huh... Where is it? Seems like it'd be a great tourist attraction, right?

[ "It was once in the city, but now. . ."

He points to the bright light on the snow-capped hill. ]

Huh...that sounds like a hike. There a bus up there or anything?

[ "Ah, no. He deemed vehicles to be too dangerous—but if you go down to the city, you can find a bicycle to use." ]

Dangerous? --Who?

[ "The savior of this land—the fourth son of Amakusa."

He stops—it seems he doesn't know whether to be proud or sheepish when he next says,

"A former student of mine." ]

Guess you never taught him how to drive.

[Pauses]

...You good? Here? You...need anything? For your student...or whatever.

[ "You're kind."

There's the crinkle in his eye again as he smiles; "But I don't need anything right now. I think, once I'm finished here, I'll go down to the house and get some more water." ]

[She shrugs, a little awkward, but nods along]

Mm, makes sense, keep hydrated. Eighty percent of the body or something, right? Don't paint too hard, okay?

[ He laughs, soft and kind.

"I will. You must remember to take care of yourself as well, young miss." ]

Oh yeah, I'm cool as a cucumber all the time, you don't gotta worry about me.

See ya 'round.

[And she grabs Hurricane and heads for the bright light, via the city]
