This room is not real.

That's the first thought that crosses your mind as soon as your consciousness comes back up. You're not even sure if that's your own thought, but the feeling doesn't leave no matter how much time has passed. The room looks nice and cozy, but everything feels wrong. You don't belong here, you're you, aren't you?

You'll soon notice that there are other things that just isn't right. You can talk, but is your mouth moving? You can see, but are your eyes blinking? You also have ball joints. Nothing hurts, and you're fine, but it's a little weird.

The land became inhospitable. It is mostly flooded, and though there are measures in place to steadily reduce the infestation of plastic and other infertile materials, many areas are still more or less overrun. From the way other people talk, and from some memory broadcasts I have seen, I have more or less come to understand that most other people are from places which look more like this city.

In any case, information about even extinct animals is of course still available, but that sort of thing was not a requisite in my education. If I have heard anything about animals and style...

I suppose a person did once compare it to birds.

I see. Birds do have mating displays that rely on appearance.

Yes. As well as displays for other reasons.
