I don't know about these exact flowers, but most plants will grow back if you don't pull them up by the root. Like most problems, I suppose.

[ she looks for the endpoint of the vines, where they must grow up from the earth, pulling carefully at the stem. ]

I need to keep this area clear. It is one of the ways I can pay my proper respects. Someday soon, I will be buried here as well. So I want whoever will come after me to take care of it properly, too.

We don't live very long. 20 to 25 years... sometimes 30. Never beyond that. Granny has seen four of us come and go.

Ah, you explained this to me once, did you not? That Hiryuu, as princess, would improve the state of your homeland, and that you are meant to be her protector.

Tell me, then, what kind of relationship do you have? I know about your mission, but not about why you love her so.

She is important to me. I love her...

You needn't be shy about extolling the virtues of someone or something you love. I'll certainly not impugn it.

But what if... I'm not being useful to her?

Would you say that to her, you would be considered a friend, or a confidant?

I think...she would say that I am both.

Then in that case, you're already fulfilling the greatest purpose of any person to another—to give them strength, and comfort, and succor in their time of need.

And I'm sure, if she is the sort of person who you described to me, that she is the sort of person who treasures that support dearly.

[ He smiles a little then, holding a hand to the fabric around his heart. ]

Do you really think so? I know it is not the same. And I have a legacy of something I am supposed to fulfill, but... that would make me happy.

Maybe she needs different kinds of support than her predecessor, for a different time and a different circumstance. And I think you must make her very happy.

There will always be trials and travails and danger and sorrow, for that is living a mortal life. But love can take the sting from all of them.

I think that you must be very wise. Because I feel a warmth in my chest when I think about it like that.

I will try to be a friend and important person that she can lean upon.

Love is one of the best gifts we have. I'm sure you'll do an excellent job of it.

Now—perhaps I should help see to the root of the problem with these encroaching vines. It would be a shame to see this place overgrown.

I hope you find it. I am only a desire of Hakuryuu. But he's still somewhere inside the heart. I'm sure you'll find all sorts of good you can do wherever you go.
