Humans, after all, experience all of these things held within these fragments. Why should they be destroyed, then? In exchange for some key? Is what lays beyond the lock really worth these things? They're very precious, you know. Even the worst of them.
So why should I hand them over?
In addition to that, if you're unwilling to accept my answer, why should I keep you alive...? You'll just ask others to destroy these things. I can't really allow for that, you know...? Humans are very scary things but I happen to like them quite a bit.
