[ Takes a slow breath, glancing back up at him and fighting the urge to grimace ]

What are you doing out here? Other than the obvious.

Huffs. His voice is dry, dead.

"What do you think?"

Answer me seriously. I know what you are trying, so tell me why.

Irritation crosses Jason's face for a moment, before he busies himself by fishing out a cigarette and lighting it.

"Nah."

The only reason you're refusing to tell me is because you already know your reasons are insufficient.

He takes a deep drag of nicotine, and turns his head to exhale a thick stream of smoke. It smells even worse than it does in real life.

"What do you think you're accomplishing here? You're gonna save me or something? There's nothing here to save."

[ Wrinkles his nose, but he lays a hand on Jason's arm ]

There is you. And you do not get to tell me I have no business saving my own brother.

"I'm not your brother. I'm just some fucked up piece of Nero's heart."

He looks down at Talon's hand like it was an entirely foreign concept - frowning.

"Don't tell me it hasn't crossed your mind to change things in here. You could fix things, with us."

Oh, good, you're self-aware.

[ He removes his hand, crossing his arms instead ]

I may disapprove, but I am not going to interfere in Jason's own choices so directly. He chose this as much as Griffin did.

'Jason' raises a brow.

"Did you have a choice when Nero fucked around in your heart?"

[ Takes an abrupt step closer, jabbing a finger in "Jason's" chest ]

I am not him. I am Talon, and I am not going to sabotage my brother's life. Not even this part of it.

You are here, and you are staying.

Jason sighs. Listlessly, he tosses what's left of his cigarette to the ground and grinds it with his boot, pointedly avoiding Talon's gaze.

"So what, you'd fight for them to stay together? After everything Nero did to hurt him?"

[ He snorts, shaking his head ]

I am not fighting for the relationship. I am fighting for Jason's right to make his own decisions about it instead of doing it for him.

Jason's eyes flicker to meet Talon's.

"Even when his own decisions tend to fuck himself over?"

...Sometimes. Sometimes it is that, or risk driving him away.

I do not want to lose him.

There's a silence, before - Jason gives another small huff, the kind that wants to be exasperated, but he's still secretly fond.

None too gently, he ruffles Talon's hair.

"I don't wanna lose him either."

[ Squawks in surprise and ducks out of range ]

Then stop trying to fade yourself away!

Snorts, darkly amused.

"He's gonna end up leaving Nero sooner or later. I'm just a place for that fear."

I can understand that, but if he were really going to leave then why hasn't he yet? After everything, he's remained.

"Path of least resistance, kid."

He shrugs. "Breaking up hasn't worked for shit. But going back to Gotham works just as well. I'll finally be out of everyone's lives and they can get their happily ever afters."

But I will be going to Gotham too.

"Well, you probably shouldn't, but you're not that bright either."

Says the aspect of a man who has chosen to let it happen even though he hates the idea of it so much that he's comparing it to going gray and drinking yourself to death.

A brow raise - but in an amused way.

"Weren't you the one who said you'd respect Jason's decisions, even if they're idiotic?"

[ Snorts, a little darkly amused ]

I argued with him at length about Griffin before I accepted it. I was not satisfied until I was certain he understood every one of my objections and still considered the relationship to be worth it.

I don't blindly respect his choices, but I do respect them when he has all necessary information.
