Vergil's heart game r5
You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.
O mother Enitharmon, wilt thou bring forth other sons?
To cause my name to vanish, that my place may not be found,
For I am faint with travail,
Like the dark cloud disburden'd in the day of dismal thunder.
My roots are brandish'd in the heavens, my fruits in earth beneath
Surge, foam and labour into life, first born and first consum'd!
Consumed and consuming!
Then why shouldst thou, accursed mother, bring me into life?
You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

Re: LIBRARY
reaches for his hand, giving it a little squeeze ]
... It's okay.
Re: LIBRARY
"If you say so."
He's just going to hold it for a while, okay? Okay.
Re: LIBRARY
[ doesn't tug him but does gesture a little with her free hand, come a little closer ]
Re: LIBRARY
And then he just goes ahead and takes a hug. Is that what you were going to offer? It's what he got out of that though so either way!
Re: LIBRARY
Re: LIBRARY
For a very long time.
Are you going to let go?
Because he is not going to let go. Maybe ever.
Re: LIBRARY
It's okay - you're a good boy, aren't you...?
Haven't you been doing your best?
Re: LIBRARY
His grip is too tight. Like he's trying to pull you right into his chest, as if you could turn into a phantom and be kept there forever...
Is it okay, Aradia? It can't be, right? But are you going to tell him he to stop and not provide care to him??
Re: LIBRARY
After a little though, she does shift against him, half-uncomfortable, half-aiming to sit herself down in the rubble ]
Here -
Why don't you put your head down...? Do you want to read a story...?
Re: LIBRARY
He holds on so, so tight. He doesn't let you move at all, nothing that would take you from him for a single second.
And it just gets tighter and tighter and tighter and tighter until you can't breathe at all and your bones creak. He's far too strong for a child or even an adult, but, well he is a demon.
He squeezes the life right out of you, and it does feel for a moment, as if he's pulled you from your body and into his. Kept safe in his core. Where nothing can hurt you, he'll protect you no matter what, and you'll never leave him or forget him or stop loving him... Isn't it comforting to feel that in your last moment?
You wake up in the cave again, cradled in the spindly, steel arms of half a dozen hooded, faceless, wraith-like creatures. Or so they appear. There's no life in them, no more than a statue holding you upon its lap not unlike the Pietà .
It sloughs away into nothing the moment you stand.
Re: LIBRARY
alarming. she isn't certain how to feel about it - no, it's more that unsettled is the way that she feels. that sort of sentiment is normal, isn't it? and she's the one who's strange, for not having the same impulse? but it's different from just killing, isn't it - if she was able to do something like that, if she was able to keep people safe through that sort of means -
. . . well, there's no dwelling on it.
but she stays there for a while doing just that before excising the thought completely. standing up, she takes another moment to look around.
which way can she go? ]
Re: LIBRARY
The roots seem to start from the heart, and most connect to the gate. One particularly large one breaks through the ground, then pops back up near a wall on the west side of the cave, twisting along the ceiling until another hole that it's broken through there.
It looks like a root, but considering it sprouts from the heart, maybe it's better to call it a vein or artery. When you get close, the blood rushing through it becomes apparent, not only to see but to hear. It's also plain to see an opening from its outer shell where it winds back up along the wall. If you don't mind a squeeze and being submerged in blood, you could ride the flow.
Re: LIBRARY
There are other things that she should be doing, but that -
If she makes it brief, it should be fine, she thinks. Heading south to go back to the library, looking for the kid. ]
Re: LIBRARY
Re: LIBRARY
[ it's said softly, a tremble in her voice that she doesn't think to suppress ]
Why did you -
[ no, hold on ]
. . . Why did that happen...?
Re: LIBRARY
He looks up, definitely a bit concerned about the way you sound.
Re: LIBRARY
[ h
hhh ]
. . . Mn, no - it isn't your fault ... I'm sorry.
[ it's not, so she needs to cut this shit out already, she thinks. instead, she smiles - brittle, but genuine ]
What are you reading...?
Re: LIBRARY
But he's pretty excited to show you the book! "You like magic, right?"
There's all sorts of spells here, most seem to make use of arcane runes and magic circles. Diagrams depict ritual sacrifice, or simply collecting vast amounts of blood, or extracting human souls. Most of it is written in a dead language, or maybe just one that doesn't exist where you come from.
There is one section you can understand the words of, though. It's on methods of turning a human into a demon. One passage describes the process of gibbeting as a form of execution, and how such tortures can allow human souls to transcend themselves through overwhelming desire for revenge. Such as the Finis caste of demons which all come into existence this way.
Another suggests binding human souls to demon forged weapons.
Another is simply a spell. It seems pretty simple, some runes and such to write in blood on the subject, they already provide the soul to power the magic, so in theory even the human in question could do it to themself. Which means you could do this, if that's what you're into.
Re: LIBRARY
[ approaching, but a little more carefully despite herself ]
More than liking or disliking it, it's something that I do - I'm a witch ...
[ and, scanning the page, ]
Is that the sort of thing that you're interested in...?
Re: LIBRARY
Re: LIBRARY
really, that's the important part. listening to him, she actually seems to relax a bit. ]
Is that so...? Then what have you learned so far...?
Re: LIBRARY
Re: LIBRARY
[ not the gibbeting. ]
That forgery method, there... It still seems easy, but in comparison to the others it would be a little more difficult, wouldn't it...?
