The sunset red grows deeper, brighter, edged with black - a fire, perhaps? There is the smell of smoke, the heat of stone, a background noise…
As you get closer, the sky grows incandescent. Indeed, it is the city itself on fire, but there are still no other people on the streets… save one.
They’re wearing the same robes as you are; not too tall and rather slightly built. They’re simply watching the fire in the distance for now, seemingly unaware of your presence - until they speak.
“You’ve come.”
The voice is familiar, if you've met Alexander before, if younger.
They're fire elementals, where I'm from. Not often seen since they live in, uhm, a rather inhospitable environment for most people. Supposedly, they are difficult to kill and can ... in a sense, rise from the ashes and return to life.
[Using their sleeve to cover their nose from the smoke. As a result their voice is a bit muffled when they respond, but they'll try to speak louder to compensate.]
I was directed here by someone who looked like Levity.
The man - boy, maybe, he doesn't look older than 17, - turns around. Unlike the real Alexander, his hair is pure white, his mask red with a pattern of concentric semi-circles on it.
"...Sky?"
He sounds a little surprised. Why are there so many babies here?
"Has he sent you to help me, or simply speak with me?"
"His mind is slowly falling apart. If he can no longer speak to others and be understood... then he is losing his connection to others. His perception of himself as a person."
"His heart is filled with grief and doubt. Things he can no longer resolve himself, and he is in too much pain to simply speak to others. And here those doubts and sorrows take form."
"...You may have the right of it regarding the manner in which you were brought here, but you are not forced to stay. He at least retains enough of himself to let people go if they do not wish to help."
Tsun!!
"As for what you may need to do... Are you familiar with the legend of the phoenix? A common concept across many worlds, it appears. Mayhap it exists in yours as well."
Sorry as an Ascian he can't really. Just explain things from the get-go.

Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
I...yes, I have.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"Ah... Young Skylark. He would surely feel guilty for bringing you here."
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
At least he can't quite say he brought me here when I walked myself over.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"Mayhap. Yet it was his heart that called you here."
...
"Would you be ready to help him?"
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
... I'll do my best.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"...Thank you. That is all he could and would ask of you."
"Now... I wonder. Does your world have the legend of the phoenix?"
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"What are they like, in your world?"
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"I see. Then... what do you imagine would happen if such a creature tried to destroy itself?"
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
I cannot say I would know exactly how or why, except that it would be extremely messy.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"Correct. And what would you judge to be the reason for such an act?"
Sorry Lark, he's. Not a very helpful NPC.

[But it's okay, they'll get there with Levity at some point, somewhere.]
To be honest, I have no idea. I wasn't able to understand him very well, but he did point me in this direction.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"...So he's lost his speech."
He sighs.
"If you've any questions, I shall answer them as best as I am able."

He turns back to the distant fire.
"And that... is such a one."
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
So we will need to deal with the manifestations of his problems.
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
"He can no longer deal with them himself."
Re: WESTWARD OF TIME
[A bit dry. Not really a rejection outright, but this is all troublesome at best and mildly horrifying on an existential level at worst.]
Anyway, you suggested he might have sent me here to help you. What does that involve?
