20k Leagues Under the Sea: Baritones

[The elevator deposits you in the interior of a spacious submersible with a decidedly steampunk aesthetic. All of the metal is brushed bronze, and the navigation tools look to be turn of the century]

[Through the periscope, you can still see the sky; the water visible through the circular windows is a pale blue-green, kissed by filtering sunlight]

How exciting! Who here doesn't mine a little pain and suffering just to see how far we can venture?

Truly, what is a victory if it is too easily gained?

Would you do the honors, then my dear?

If there are no objections, then I would be delighted to.

I believe it is all yours.

[Hopefully they made BARiTONES submersible taller for her sake!]

Why not? If we die we just get revived. Let's do it.

[His heart isn't entirely in that sentiment but that's fine, it's fine!]

It is the most definite path to victory. I imagine there will be some punishment for those who don't move forward much at all.

But if we push too hard, don't hesitate.

[Lily is staring at the water excitedly!!!!]

Oh oh, I don't!

You love the water, do you not?

[personal profile] failedsafe 2021-07-10 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I do! And I might have hijacked a submersible once and went on an adventure as a child, but that's neither here nor there, really!

[personal profile] firstworldproblem 2021-07-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you crash it?

[she gasps! shocked and affronted!]

Of course not!

...Maybe.

[she taps her cheek.]

All I know is I st--borrowed it for a very important mission, I don't remember all the details yet.

I'm just evaluating your piloting skills, Lily. Nothing more.

Oh, I'm teasing. [She smiles a bit! No harm done.]

Well, back then, I could interface with it, so that made things easier. Not completely, since it doesn't mean being perfect, but easier.

As am I.

But you probably know more about the ocean's depth than most.

I do love it so...even if it was mostly hated where I come from, aaaaaaaand absolutely with good reason, but...

[She stares out again.]

I don't know.

Was the ocean truly hated or simply what resided within?

Both. Lysidian was full of water. People don't live on natural land, it's all under the Leshtaya. And it churns, constantly, unceasingly. It is always storming.

I'm sure there is a explanation for the churning. Though your star does seem on the difficult side for habitation.

The...I suppose my world's equivalent of aether is very much in flux and overly predisposed to water. It was not always so. It seemed to favour water, yes, but not to the present degree.

[She smiles, though, at the latter statement.]

People find a way...I am ever impressed at human ingenuity, especially under duress. Though there are drawbacks even so.
