You find yourself in a comfortable lounge that has a number of long tables for group work as well as some solo writing desks. There are also plush armchairs clustered around side tables. It seems like a great place to discuss your assignment, right?
There is now a large, jagged hole in the ceiling where something crashed through—and there is a large, twisted hunk of metal and electronics that's broken a table in half and set fire to the carpet and some of the wood. Hm. That's probably not good?
How much fire are we talking about. Would using the water from the vases he's seen so far be enough to help with this a bit? IS there water in the vases???]
There is water in the vases, if you take out the flowers. But you suspect that it is probably not enough. On the other hand it's not spreading a huge amount? The carpet is at least not extremely flammable—only a little.
[Hm. No use using the vases for this, so he'll let them be. Skittering back to the fire- is the carpet nailed down or can he take it up for fire-beating purposes?]
You manage to smother out a lot of the flames, leaving only big black scorch marks in their wake. The room is smoky and uncomfortable, but you're pretty sure it's not going to burn any more.
The night sky is visible through the hole in the ceiling.
[GOOD. Nyx will attempt to put the carpet back where he found it, not that that's worth much, then let out a sigh of relief. He'll look upwards while letting himself relax a bit, and finally notice the night sky above. NICE. Can he see the moon from here?]
[A+++++. That will allow him to calm his nerves a bit. Once his neck finally gets tired of moon-viewing, he'll lower his eyes again... and they'll land on the hunk of metal and stuff. What's up with that, anyway? Examining!]
If one was familiar with the concept, one might surmise that it used to look kind of like this. However, the "wings" snapped off at some point, leaving mostly the core of the device.
The fire has thankfully largely been extinguished already, especially because this place looks kind of antique and not especially keen on fire safety. There is a strange object that looks like it maybe melted halfway in the middle of all the scorch marks, though. It still feels pretty hot.
It seems pretty fucked up. Like, oh, it had a rapid deceleration through the atmosphere, and the panels snapped off somewhere along the way, and it's like 50% melted. It was probably not intended to do whatever it did.
and the library does not seem to have an excess of large flying object removal supplies, unfortunately. Maybe you'll find someone who can help, but don't you have a due date?
[But also there is this giant chunk of metal in the library]
[...but also due date]
[Sighs, and leaves it for now, goes to try and dig up the books he needs. Maybe by the time this paper is done, it will have cooled down enough to be disassembled so he can cart it off]

Yeah he has no idea. Anyway, more importantly, he has a paper to write, so off to Retrospectives with him.]

1. superheated
2. like 600 lbs

[Time to dig up any and all references to vampires and aggressively reject all the sources that claim they're monsters]
[Which is to say, heading over to PRIMARY SOURCES: EARLY 20TH CENTURY]
