"Welcome," the professor says, briskly, tapping a stack of papers on her desk. "I'm glad you've finally arrived, since your assignment is due soon. I hope you were paying attention to the material, since I'm expecting a paper on the topic of its meaning. Did you have questions?"
Anyway, I guess I do. Is it cheating to ask for advice on the starter? Even if I've got ideas for the rest of it, I'm not too confident about the intro.
"I'm attempting to let my students draw their own conclusions and not influence the outcomes," she says. "I know this is new material for you, but I think that could potentially make for an interesting fresh take on the subject matter. Thankfully, there's a lot of materials here that you can use to research. If you have specific questions, though, go ahead. You can also search for keywords in the computer lab."
"Heavens. If I told you what I wanted the conclusion to be, it wouldn't be a very interesting assignment, now, would it? So please, do try and impress me on that count."
[If there were papers on the desk when he became aware, he'll glance at them now for hints, but if not he. He already knows there's nothing worth looking at.]
I guess that means you want me to focus it on just one for now?
"If you want background reading, try the primary sources section—although I think a lot of people don't consider the subject's body of work enough, so perhaps try the essays section, since I find that one's own writing is rather telling."

I don't suppose you'd be willing to throw me a bone with any search terms before I go take a look?
