[Welcome to the Isle of Berk. You find yourself in an arena, dug into the ground with a chain dome above, currently suspended in the air on a pulley system to allow easy flight in and out. The air is cold and carries the sea breeze, though luckily you find yourself dressed well enough in furs and leathers.]
[Before you stands a woman, a hard, serious, slightly judgemental look on her face. There is an air of authority to her, someone who should be listened to. Which might be undercut a bit by the baby Night Fury that follows after her as she paces in front of you. Notably, she never almost steps on the thing. It is always perfectly safe. Watching nearby is also a Deadly Nadder.]
Welcome to your opportunity of becoming a dragon rider. It is a great honor to join our ranks, but its also extremely dangerous. If you are not prepared to commit to your partnership, it could cost you life or limb.
Today will be a small taste of that. You could give up and leave, but otherwise, the ways you leave are sundown, with a lifelong friend and partner, or you need medical attention. Luckily for all of you, Hiccup has convinced these dragons humans aren’t an enemy so they shouldn’t go for your head right away.
If you fail, you can try again, but you will be learning from me instead of Hiccup. And trust me when I say, my standards are a lot higher. [There is certainly a hint of Danger in her words.]
[She stops her pacing, and turns to face all of you.] So. Who goes first?
Of course its dangerous. Dragons and humans fought for centuries, both in struggle for survival, and humans attempting to enslave them. Dragons trusting humans is new. And tentative trust can easily turn into not so tentative fighting.
That's why Hiccup prefers we go his methods first before mine with dragon riders.
[EXCEPT NONE OF THAT APPLIES TO MIYA BECAUSE DRAGON.]
[Instead Miya finds herself in the forest shortly after dawn. The world is mostly quiet, save for the scuttling of nocturnal dragons getting ready to sleep, and whatever other animals live in the forest. There is a strong scent of dragon in these woods, of scales and fire.]
[And Astrid is in front of her, heading down a path that she seems able to follow. There is a faint scent of Hiccup here, like its a well worn one for him.]
[There is Deadly Nadder not too far off, choosing to remain close, but needing to take a little more careful path because this dragon can't shapeshift for ease. There is also the baby night fury, still following her, hopping from rocks and tree branches.]
Of course not. We're used to you guys. Did Hiccup skip the part where he actually explained or did his geek out hard again? [There is a familiar and begrudging fondness.]
The Night Furies. He can get them to trust him, but if he can't get them to trust other humans, it'll put Toothless in a hard position none of us want.
[Astrid pulls the switch and is quick to move out of sight, keeping close to the wall, Stormfly doing much the same. Its a little hard to see in the cell, but there's a large pool of something Glowing and extra rocks to curl behind.]
[And the reason its hard to see is because the dragon is glowing Really Brightly.]
[]
[She roars at Lucifel, scuttling out of the cage and up along to the ceiling of the chain fence to get more room to Move.]
[ offering his hands out slowly to her, palms up, just to show he don't got shit on him. he isn't moving closer, nor is he moving away, but he is keeping his gaze down on the ground rather than directly to her ]
[She is still skittering about, but there's no way out at the moment. But Astrid and Stormfly are keeping very still and very far from Luci, and Luci is doing what he is.]
[The Flightmare moves over to the ceiling above him.]
[And uses its long body to start to lower down, back legs still on the ceiling, head looking at his head.]

Re: Astrid
[Because sometimes sessions only have one person around at a start time.]
Re: Astrid
I'll do my best.
Re: Astrid
Well, weapons aren't much threat anyway, but better to toss them to the side and head to the center.

I have a question. What exactly does a dragon rider do?
Re: Astrid
Help grow and strengthen the bond and understanding between humans and dragons.
Defense when necessary, but we have that more or less covered these days. Now its about encouraging harmony.
Re: Astrid
[Not that "big fanged beasts are adorable actually" is a strange concept.]

Just a little farther now.
Re: Miya Start
... Right. Okay.
What's just a little farther?
Re: Miya Start
It has Toothless' scent all over the place, so Hiccup figured it'd be soothing for our guests. As much can be for our experiment.

I'm guessing, by guests, you don't mean me and whoever else found themselves here.

My, you're rather luminous.
