YULETIDE 2 - BATTLE 5

[ Once you enter the Escape Room, a series of messages pops up on your phones: ]

TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Wellll it looks like Naffy's out of commission? It'll take her awhile to reboot with how hard she just got hit by the autocensor!
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Whatever you did, it really made her mad! Haha!
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Anyway since I know what's going on now, I'm happy to help! It looks like the nature of the threat is a gang war between an evil thought sealed and another that you all and your fans helped to return to the world of the not-so-living? Wild!
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: In case you didn't get the memo, this means you're going to explore the combination WcDonald's and Damned Queen's Cookies!
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: There you'll find something you're looking for, probably…? But mostly you're looking for a way to contain the outbreaks!
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: And fortunately, we've received a message from a friendly entity known only as "The Borger King", who apparently has a stake in the downfall of Lonard's lost empire…
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: It says:
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: There is a war going on for your mind. Steal their secrets. Create the Ultimate Prankburger. The king awaits. Salvation will come.
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Wow! It looks like it's time for corporate espionage, or something?
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Anyway, you get to keep everything you find, unless it's a dolphin! That's mine.
TOTAL⚓DISASTER: Better get going! Charge!!!!!

[ And then everything goes white... ]

[ This is, what, the third time in a row they've gotten this cozy after a Game (or whatever this was)? If they didn't probably already have reputations, she'd be worried about getting one -- for a given value of worried, meaning she doesn't especially care. Especially when touching him immediately feels much better, in a way she recognizes from that frozen wasteland game. ]

[ Bloodthirsty though she is, the other status effects are equally strong, so she takes a moment to drag her fangs down his neck before biting down fully. She makes a soft but distinctly indulgent sound as she drinks in long, drawn out swallows. ]

[ He's leaning into her reflexively, muffling a thin noise at the — tease of fangs, shit, that should not be getting to him so much or so fast, especially not in public, especially not surrounded by a lot of friends who are injured or dead.

It is anyway, though. Damn.

(Shutting his eyes, trying to put it out of his mind.) ]

[ It doesn't occur to her that there might be something at work beyond hunting instincts until she gets what should be enough blood to offer relief -- and it doesn't happen. She stops drinking anyway and retracts her fangs, collecting any drizzling blood with her tongue, trying to think about anything except -- well. Two things that really are not productive to think about right now. ]

[ She tries to pull away, and makes it far enough to be eye to eye, the entire time fighting with herself about this not being the time or place. ]

I think -- she did something to me. [ The look on her face probably makes it quite clear what was done; hopefully she won't have to get specific because she might get seriously graphic if she starts talking and -- time and place. ]

[ Decidedly languid when she withdraws, but he goes very still at the flick of her tongue, blinking hard. When he meets her eyes — well, the look in his is probably kind of similar, pupils blown and gaze a tad unfocused. Wets his lips, ]

Yeah. Put me — down for that, too.

[ He tries to give her a crooked smile, tries to make it sort of funny, but wow Ice Queen your timing is shit. ]

[ She smiles in reply, it is a little funny, because -- ] We're making a habit of this. [ This is definitely not a complaint, much as she'd prefer to have a choice in her own feelings, but eh there are worse post-game fates. ]

My hunger, too. It's not improving. [ After she says that she considers that it might be alarming, so going on ] Not dangerous, I don't think, just bothersome.

[ Probably she shouldn't be standing so close, definitely shouldn't be leaning forward against him, so hopefully he's feeling more reasonable than she is. (If there was anything she could do for the hurt and dead people she'd pull it together, but there isn't.) ]

[ Lupine's smile goes even more crooked, then threatens to slip off his face entirely, but she caught herself — or him, whichever — so he relaxes again. Still, gonna be giving her a concerned look, and he drags his thumb gently over her cheek. ]

That sucks, I'm sorry.

[ About her still being hungry. Although, even as he says it, he's licking his lips again, and— ]

...I'm actually kind of thirsty, but I thought it was just the dehydration from earlier.

Mm, I'll be fine. Just might need to drink a bit now and then until it clears up. [ Canting her head into his touch, both for status effect reasons and because she always finds touch comforting. ]

Does that mean grabbing some drinks before I drag you to bed? [ Look, subtlety is never her strong suit, and right now she's especially disinclined toward coyness. She idly toys with his hair as she talks, scrapes his scalp and the back of his neck with her nails. ]

Venti too, he said he'd help once he recovers his body, and I think he could probably use some attention. [ Dying twice, that's gotta be rough. ]

[ hnnn his breathing hitched a little ] [ Shit timing, Ice Queen, he's just reiterating that. ]

Heh. Wouldn't say no. [ To the drinks, but also to help. ] Hopefully he'll be able to handle us.

[ This is sort of a joke, because sIV and their technically infinite stamina, and sort of genuine, because Venti's not in good shape. ]

I have faith in him. He's a force to be reckoned with at any size. [ Yes she knows Venti's hurt, this is her trying to be positive and hoping the sentiment's catching. ]

How bad is it? [ The effects, she means. (Judging by the way she leans closer to brush against him and her gaze keeps dipping down to his mouth, hers is pretty bad. The bloodthirst, that's a little less so, probably because she just had a drink.) ]

[ His smile twitches a tiny bit. ]

And I mean, he's not even that much smaller than he usually is.

[ He'll try to keep it light with her. ] [ And then wow he sure is looking away. ]

—Nothing I can't handle, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping to get out of here sooner rather than later.

[ He'd feel slightly less uneasy if he was sure he was thirsty for water. ]

[ Hipchecking him a little ] Be nice.

[ She can't quite tell why he's uncomfortable, so she sighs and steps back, sliding her arms off his shoulders. And is suddenly cold again, but maybe cold is better than too warm? ]

Sorry, I'm probably not helping. I'll behave -- I'll try to.

Who's not being nice? He's a perfectly good size either way.

[ Wink. ]

[ And immediately chafing his arms for warmth, because it's worse right after you were fine. Okay, that's — going to be really inconvenient when he'd like to be helping organize the heal-and-revive efforts a little. ]

...Depends on what you mean by 'helping'.

[ He's just— ] [ Pauses for a moment, thinking, then admits: ]

I'm not used to being this easily — distracted.

[ She frowns at his attempts to warm himself, instantly regretting pulling away. She's less affected by things like temperature normally, so it's annoying but not intolerable -- though maybe if she goes without touch for long enough, it might become so. ]

Ah. [ Understandable, she supposes. She's so free with touch and affection, and so often guided (or misguided) by instinct that she tends to accept feelings like this fairly easily, even if they're not her own in this instance. It's stuff like sofaform that she struggles with -- when her feelings are stunted or blocked. (Maybe she'd have trouble with what's happening if faced with someone she wasn't already attracted to...?) ]

Anything I can do? [ Go away is an acceptable answer here; they can meet up later when there's no reason to hold back. ] I'd suggest taking the edge off, but... [ seems like that'd be more a tease than anything since where could they even go? ]

[ Yeah, the chafing does nothing, but that's fine. He'll adjust in a minute and then just be uncomfortable. ] [ Lupine snorts, but not without fondness. ]

Not here.

[ He refuses to need a cottage! Refuses. ]

I'm sure we'll be outta here soon enough.

[ But he is edging a little closer to her despite himself. ]

[ Well, fair enough. She's stubborn herself, but not about this -- it's not something she gets shy or embarrassed about, so why start now? It's a little funny to her, how not bothered he was by her reaction to his wing effect, when right now she genuinely would think he's sort of a prude if she didn't know better. ]

[ She looks faintly amused at his inching, then just slides over to stand more at his side, holding his arm. Better? ]

I'll make it worth the wait, promise.

[ Yeah, this is — different. During the Setsubeans endgame, he just wanted to. Could've tuned it out completely. He is especially sure he wouldn't have been nearly as interested if there had been people dead and dying around them. He does not like that he keeps feeling this impulse to rake his eyes down her body or drag her into a hungry kiss when Lark's like three meters away and bleeding. Don't worry, he'll enjoy it a lot more once it's no longer so desperately inappropriate for the moment. ] [ But he absolutely leans into that touch, and the shivering stops.

Beat. Crooked smile for her. ]

Oh, no doubt.

It might be best if we head over to Venti's room, just in case he needs some healing when he reverts. Yeah?

[ It's a small bed, but she doesn't plan for there to be much space between any of them. Even Lupine will need to make with the snuggling given the need for body heat (which she's only mildly sorry about wanting to take advantage of). ]

[ In the meantime, her hand rubs up and down the inside of his arm. She's restraining herself enough but she's not made of stone. ]

[ .......................and maybe for other reasons? Maybe for other reasons. ]

—Yeah. That works for me.
