[It's all just regular chatter about daily lives, family gossip, that kind of thing.]

[Right, well, he knows SOMETHING weird is going on, but if people aren't gonna talk, and he isn't sure beating someone up for the information is warranted....]

[He'll just head on back to the hotel for now.]

[The lobby has a wood panel flooring, and the concierge greets him as he enters. Kino's nowhere to be seen - presumably already in bed.]

Welcome! Will you be staying with us tonight?

Yeah. I was with the other traveler with the brown coat, so a room near theirs would be good.

Certainly. I imagine you'll want to stay for two nights as well?

I think so, yeah.

Then it'll be...

[They'll work out the price, sliding the key - imprinted with the room number - over to him once paid.]

[Pay the money, take the key.]

[He will pause.]

Hey, do you know anything about brown coats being in style or something?

Huh? No... Why do you ask?

A few people thought it was notable today. Was just curious about it.

Well, I haven't heard anything about it. Maybe it's a new fad with the younger crowd.

The next day.

Despite all of Hermes’ worries, they were picked up at the hotel.

There were about twenty adults other than the woman they met the previous day. All of them threw words of gratitude to Kino one after the other.

“Er, right... Thank you...”

Kino was surprised as there were much more people than they had anticipated.

“Please let us observe as well!”

“That’s fine with me... but in exchange, I can’t tell you how I’m doing things, okay...?” Kino said, but only because it was not good enough of a dish to be taught to so many people. However, everyone there took it to mean that they were concealing their secret technique.

“We don’t mind at all! Now, please come this way!”

Kino and Hermes were guided to a fine restaurant. It was reserved.

And in the backyard, there were plenty of chicken running free. They were running and leaping energetically, and some could even fly for a rather long distance.

“Those chicken look delicious,” Kino said with sparkling eyes.

“It’s too late.”

Hermes stayed silent after that, as if he had foreseen everything.

Free-range chicken, vegetables, and every possible seasoning there is.

The best ingredients were prepared all for the sake of Kino’s cooking.

“Is it really all right for me to make whatever I want?”

“Of course! We won’t say anything while you’re at it!”

And so, Kino wore the apron and rolled up the sleeves of their shirt.

There was the sound of a film roll coming to an end. It seems your character is no longer an audience member, but a part of the story itself. They’ll be able to assist - or not - with any cooking adventures as they wish.

....what a strange place.

They really want you to cook for them, huh?

It looks that way.

[But they're setting to work, grabbing ingredients that look good.]

Maybe they just ask anyone with a brown coat to do this...?

Is that what it is?

The restaurant people have been really weird about 'brown coats' and all sell the same dish, just with individual spins.

They gotta be changing out dishes regularly somehow.

...So they're hoping to figure out what I'm cooking?

[Though they don't seem too concerned by that, continuing to cook as they usually do:

by dousing the meat in WAY too many spices. Especially since this kitchen is especially well-equipped.]

I think so.

Which, good on them. Their food would have a far more varied audience then the usual stuff.

[He hasn't figured out Kino's good food for him is actually Terrible for humans.]

[Will also hand them anything they seem to be going for.]

Ah, thank you.

[This chicken is quickly turning red...]

Did you find the food bad?

Didn't eat it, but the smell wasn't very appetizing.

Is it because of the difference in tastes?

[Though their food probably smells... comparatively better, by virtue of rapidly becoming a disaster.

Hermes is making distressed noises in the background.]

Maybe a bit, but it all does seem really bland. About the only thing that looks any good was the steaks and that was basic.

[Because never fully cook a steak.]

[He can't be trusted.]

Yours, meanwhile, always smells good.
