It's not so hard, so long as she doesn't let herself dwell on it. It's just that, as soon as she actually does— ]

I told Shrike... that to believe otherwise was a coward's way out. That if she had done great harm—and she had done great harm—then she had a greater obligation to not give into despair. To keep striving for something better.

So I... will not make myself a hypocrite.
But I also know that... the day is coming when I must remember my death for myself.

[Still heavy, since being honorable or whatever doesn't undo what's been done--can't make any of this less painful or the loss of people so important less devastating. (And the concern and empathy felt for Amaranth doesn't hold back an anxious trill at the idea of unceremoniously having one's death--the real one that counted--revealed via broadcast, either.)]
