Huh, and [ cough. ] "interesting" concept for a game. [ he hates the lab setting ( a lot ) as it reminds him of one of his... "coworkers", but he does his best not to let that show. ]

I'm thinking inside, but what do you guys think?

I'd say inside but why are you saying inside?

Re: DISCUSSION

...based on personal experience. I think a person's drive, goals, dreams, hopes, and everything held deep inside of them are what motivate them and make them them. It's not that I don't think the 'outside' can influence that, but I think the inside is more important.

We agree then. I don't think anyone or anything else can grant you that stuff, you have to find it for yourself.

Pretzel wants to have it mimic humans, but I think if we can teach it what it means to be humans that would be infinitely better. Mimicry can only take it so far. It needs to learn, adapt, ...not pretend.

[shrugs]

Pretzel was also saying that there's nothing inside to start with, but I don't think that's necessarily true.

I don't think so either. I know people like to assume that anything and everything starts blank, but... maybe it's just me, but I don't believe it. I could be wrong, but [ shrugs. ] then sue me.

It's a big question in philosophy I've read too. Do we start things unmarked or is there stuff going on inside us from the very start. I don't know if there's a real answer.

Re: DISCUSSION

I think it's a mix of both, if I'm being honest, but we're playing a game, and we've got to make a choice, and they don't want to make it easy on us. [ he sighs. ] If I have to pick one, then I do think inside is the way to go. I just... going off personal experience, I suppose, I prefer it. That's not to say I don't think a lot of what Pretzel is saying is wrong, but... [ another shrug. ]

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] protectshisown 2022-06-25 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that seems the likely answer.

A lot of people who think they aren't human are usually pretty human.

Re: DISCUSSION

[ nods. ] And I do think that the environment can help, but a lot of it comes from what's inside, real or not.
protectshisown: (Oh this is very awkward)

Re: DISCUSSION

Its true.

Potential is inside a person, not outside. The spark has to be there to get anywhere.

Exactly. And backed into a corner you can always expect to see it come out.
protectshisown: (Maybe if we just thought it through)

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] protectshisown 2022-06-25 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely. I have met a lot of people who don't think they're people, but they always try their best for kindness in those situations.

Re: DISCUSSION

I think a few people here have this problem... and it can be hard to talk them out of it. [ impossible, tbh. ]
protectshisown: (Well I mean...could be worse?)

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] protectshisown 2022-06-25 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It is incredibly hard to talk them out of it.

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] childeishly 2022-06-25 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
...this kind of conversation is also just hard. I think like a person's personality their beliefs can also be really cemented into them, so if they think they're not a person, then... they're not a person, and it doesn't matter what you say.
protectshisown: (Something out there)

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] protectshisown 2022-06-25 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

Which is why its good to look inside person.

Comparing yourself to people never actually goes well.

Exactly. I'm sure you've made progress with them... you're really good at that.

[ewjaieojwaoiew what is this sudden praise.]

I mean-

I think I've convinced them I'm sincere in my thoughts, but changing that sort of thinking is...difficult.
childeishly: (pic#14682336)

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] childeishly 2022-06-25 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ compliments 👏 for 👏 rye 👏 ]

But the fact that you've convinced them you're sincere and not just talking *at* them, that's a feat in and of itself. You're getting there.
protectshisown: (Oh this is very awkward)

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] protectshisown 2022-06-25 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS.]

Mostly its because no one thinks I'm a liar usually. [No one can think he's a liar for long, he's too earnest and sincere for that nonsense.]
