[The road eventually takes a turn left, and that's when you can hear a loud noise coming from somewhere deep inside the forest, like something just fell from a high place. A branch? It must have been a very high place, for it to make that sort of noise.
However, at this point you can also see that this road leads down to a village! Where do you want to go?]
[You try to locate the source of the sound, and your quest leads you, yes, deep inside the forest. After a while, you come out to a clearing and find yourself facing...
...a very big, majestic tree. Well, that’s what you see at first, but then the sight changes even as you look at it; the trunk and its enormous roots take on a deep madder color, and the branches and leaves disappear.
The tree you first saw is now little more than a gigantic trunk, pruned to exaggeration. It has a couple of branches in moss green and cotton candy pink color, and more than a few in navy blue color. In fact, it looks like the navy blue color is starting to spread onto the trunk.]
[Yes, you'll have to walk around the trunk to find the source!
You see Sol approaching a dying bonfire, in Taisho clothing and wearing a big scarf around his neck that you may have seen him wear before. He's carrying some silver and bronze branches. He throws them into the fire, and seems to murmur something while extending his hand over it. Almost immediately, the fire is rekindled.
He’s wearing an eyepatch on his right eye, so at least you don’t get to see dark bags under both his eyes! He looks paler than usual. His clothes are torn and have traces of dry blood on them.
Sure. The original Gigas Cedar was a demon tree that sucked up the blessings of the Goddess of Light to make them its own, so my job was to cut it down. But here, it is known as the Tree of Life. My job, for the rest of eternity, is to trim the branches that stain the trunk so that the tree can thrive.
It's still a demon tree. I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to-- I'd like my shift to be over and eat something at some point-- but it feeds itself off color now, and letting the tree change colors is punishable by monochromatosis. If I leave it alone, it will affect everyone.
You put your hand over it, and say the words System Call. Generate Thermal Element. Form flame shape. Discharge.
[the moment he says that last word, the small flame that he created and was floating in front of his hand is shot forward, into the fire, and it's rekindled as a result]
This consumes spatial resources, so I'm just creating one thermal element, otherwise all the flowers here would disappear.
Imagination: You succeed in creating one thermal element, then turn it into a small flame that floats until you set it free. The fire is rekindled-- in fact, it seems to be getting a little out of hand.
All around you, flowers disappear.
[Sol throws some more branches into the fire. Were these cotton candy pink? Oops]
That was a great first try... I guess I shouldn't worry about you.
[ takes off his uppermost kimono layer to lay over him like a blanket ]
Yes, I'll see you soon.
[ as he straightens up and turns to approach the tree, he keeps murmuring to himself in a storyteller's lilt, soft enough to hopefully not disturb him ]
After working devotedly for so long, you'll surely sleep well and deeply, undisturbed by any fitful dreams or outside happenings. And when you soon wake, you will wake rejuvenated.
This battle system is turn-based. An action’s success will be decided with a simple dice roll to be specified in chan. Success against an enemy can be measured in successful attacks and weapon class.
Weapon class: You can check a weapon’s class in its Stacia Window. A successful attack made with a Class 5 weapon may not kill a Goblin in one strike, but a successful attack made with a Class 15 weapon will! Try to find and wield stronger weapons for a better chance at a one-hit KO. Stronger foes will require better weapons-- or many, many turns and a lot of luck. This feels like a paid gacha endorsement, but it’s not. You have to explore and level up. You can’t whale for this.
Imagination (Appendix): You can bypass the need for a dice roll by using the power of imagination in certain ways! My System 3 description wasn’t complete due to c&p fail, so this is a good time to remedy that.
No matter what you do, you will always need a catalyst of some sort. For example, you may be able to Imagine a whip becoming a snake and have the snake perform an attack (why would you) (well, maybe you want to poison your enemy?!), but you won’t be able to summon a snake out of nowhere, or to turn a dagger into a snake unless you get really creative with your justification of why a snake might arguably have the shape of a dagger in a dormant state. We’d have to roll dice for this because of how far-fetched it would be. You can make your weapon bigger, but you can’t change its Class to a higher one.
Basically, you cannot use the power of imagination to override the mechanics in place, but you can use it to maximize your chances.
Please don’t consult whether something can be done or not OOCly! Let your characters the limits of this for themselves if need be (and avoid giving other people ideas in chan).
[You come face to face with one goblin. Its hunched frame is stout and stocky, with abnormally long arms and gleaming claws. It looks surprised-- but reaches back for its axe immediately.
The goblin snarls, ready to swing its axe down at Yasuragi with force as soon as it gets it loose! But... it seems to be having a wardrobe malfunction. For some reason, tugging won't get it loose... This is so unprecedented that the goblin can't believe it and just keeps tugging with both hands over its shoulder.
This goblin really wants to kill you, and the power of embarrassment fuels its attack!
The axe connects with Yasuragi's throat directly, a critical hit to a vulnerable spot. If this was the real world, his head would be rolling on the ground by now. But this is Underworld (sort of). A class 10 axe can't cut through a human's throat in just one strike.
It can in two, though.
Your life decreases by 2000. There is a gaping wound on your throat. You will lose 200 per turn until you get that healed, or die. The pain is excruciating. You'll faint after two turns and become unable to act.

No, I only want mine to be over so I can rest before coming back. There is no one else.

I suppose.

I'll just take a quick nap. Don't let the fire die, okay? Otherwise we'll both freeze, the way things are.

Do you have food somewhere? And wasn't there something you did earlier, to encourage the fire. Some incantation.
no subject
All my food expired. And yeah, that was a Sacred Art, but I doubt you can use those... I can still teach it to you, if you want.
