Mori's heart

All at once a rainbow of bright lights feels as if it is bursting through you. It is an intense experience, but not an unpleasant one. As the colours burn through your skin, and lighting begins to spark through your veins, you feel stronger, you could take on the world right now.

Faintly in the distance, beyond the iridescent light show that overwhelms your vision, you can just about make out some silhouettes, but they’re too blurred, too indistinct and too far to tell anything about them. You can’t see them, but you know they’re welcoming you. You’re wanted here, you’re needed here, and the light is guiding you where you’re meant to go.

Nope, any nervousness was my own bad. I was worried I'd make things harder or worse for you, but then I remembered Mori is stronger than that. So....sorry, but you're still very selfless. And you are definitely very great.

I don't like many people, so for me to like Mori...you must be kind of a big deal.

Blushing increases, hunching over and trying to hide away.

"That's too much! You're too much! You can't just say all that to me...!"

Why not? It's definitely the truth. And I like being honest with you. So it's fine, isn't it?

You are killing him.

"You're too good... You're way too good to me, even the worst part of me, what am I supposed to do with this... You're the one that doesn't know how great you are."

Nah, I'm this good because Mori deserves it. I can be way nastier, trust me.

...but I wouldn't mind if we stood on the roof properly? I had to climb a lot of stairs to get here and sitting on this railing is causing my butt to go kinda numb.

"...Yeah. Fine, whatever."

He swings his legs over the railing and stands on the roof, not putting his shoes back on. He fidgets with his hands for a bit and looks aside, mumbling.

"...I don't always need to see the nice Silver either, you know..."

[Mori is getting a hug from behind then, resting his chin on his shoulders]

I'll try to show you more of me too then. Sound fair?

Startles, looking up at Silver with his face on fire, then quickly lowers his head.

"F... Fine."

It's a deal.

[Goes to pick up Mori's shoes and notebook]

Everyone feels down on themselves sometimes. So I don't expect you to feel okay all the time. But when you do feel bad, you can come hang with me. You don't even have to say anything if you don't want to. Just know you've got that option, okay?

When Silver picks those up he feels two distinct rushes of emotion from them.

From the notebook, he feels utter worthlessness. Self-loathing mixes in with anger and frustration and malice, a desire to lash out at everything around you.

From the shoes, he feels a twisted sense of satisfaction.

Mori looks anxious at him picking them up and holds out his hands for them.

"I don't feel like this often, so, don't worry too much about all that... But. I'll try to remember."

[Glancing at the shoes]

You love these shoes so why do they feel weird?

Grabbing the shoes away!!

"It's not the shoes."

No? What is it then? If they’re going to make you feel bad...

He stares at you sharply, voice tight.

"What? What will you do if they make me feel bad?"

I wouldn’t hurt them, you like these shoes. I can let you borrow mine until they feel better though.

"...Like I said, it's not the shoes..."

[Sitting down, tugging Mori with him]

Okay, what then?

"Ah-"

He is tugged down, but still looks apprehensive, curling in on himself.

"...Don't worry about it."

[Shoulderbumps]

Why so worried?

"...You think 'Mori' would be better off without these feelings?"

Not necessarily? Like I said, we all have bad times. It makes the good times better and if you hadn’t gone through that you might not be the same. And I like the Mori we have.

He clutches his shoes close to his chest, but after a moment the tension eases out of his shoulders.

"...Okay. Okay."

I get down on myself. And back home not everyone is my biggest fan. I get over it eventually though and work harder. Mori is the same, right?

"...For the most part he is, yeah.

If people back home don't like you they're stupid."

[Okay, that gets a laugh]

I don’t think I’ve heard you call someone stupid before.
