Note: please be as cryptic as possible regarding any specific actions your character takes when discussing them in the game channel to avoid influencing everyone else!
Um, most of this is the goblins'. I've had to fight them off... Things haven't been too good around here lately. Actually, if you're here for a game, you should seek shelter at the church in the village and wait there until it's over. It's not safe out here.
Oh no, did that happen tonight?! Sol, I'm so sorry! I saw the goblins and I tried to follow them but I lost them! I'm sorry you had to fight them on your own.
[The sound of very obvious branches breaking under someone's foot stops him, and he turns around to look in the direction of the trunk. Everything seems normal... Too normal, though. Where are the insects, the birds?]
Oh, no...
[unsheathes his sword. then, quietly:]
I don't know how many they'll be this time. Can you fight, Cobalt?
[Sol looks like he's about to say something, but then the goblins (OF COURSE IT HAD TO BE THE GOBLINS) come out from behind the trunk, smiling. Well. "Smiling." They look more hungry than anything.]
Enemy: Goblin (3!!)
Fight System
This battle system is turn-based. An action’s success will be decided with a simple dice roll to be specified in chan. Success against an enemy can be measured in successful attacks and weapon class.
Weapon class: You can check a weapon’s class in its Stacia Window. A successful attack made with a Class 5 weapon may not kill a Goblin in one strike, but a successful attack made with a Class 15 weapon will! Try to find and wield stronger weapons for a better chance at a one-hit KO. Stronger foes will require better weapons-- or many, many turns and a lot of luck. This feels like a paid gacha endorsement, but it’s not. You have to explore and level up. You can’t whale for this.
Imagination (Appendix): You can bypass the need for a dice roll by using the power of imagination in certain ways! My System 3 description wasn’t complete due to c&p fail, so this is a good time to remedy that.
No matter what you do, you will always need a catalyst of some sort. For example, you may be able to Imagine a whip becoming a snake and have the snake perform an attack (why would you) (well, maybe you want to poison your enemy?!), but you won’t be able to summon a snake out of nowhere, or to turn a dagger into a snake unless you get really creative with your justification of why a snake might arguably have the shape of a dagger in a dormant state. We’d have to roll dice for this because of how far-fetched it would be. You can make your weapon bigger, but you can’t change its Class to a higher one.
Basically, you cannot use the power of imagination to override the mechanics in place, but you can use it to maximize your chances.
Please don’t consult whether something can be done or not OOCly! Let your characters the limits of this for themselves if need be (and avoid giving other people ideas in chan).
In all cases, spatial resources will be consumed.
[You have a chance for a first strike! However, they're pretty far away and taking their time to come over...? Sol seems pretty content not to move.]
They're trying to lure us. They're afraid of light, and they don't like fire either.
[Nope! That one must be... busy. Elsewhere. Who knows where! It's a mystery!!]
When they realize that Cobalt and Sol aren't going to move, two of the goblins look at each other and nod, splitting up to walk in opposite directions, as if heading back into the forest.
The third one stays where it is, watching them.
Ugh... Go after the one on the left when I give the signal, okay? Don't let it get away, they'll have the advantage in the dark.
[Sol starts murmuring something too fast and low to be made out, and then extends his arm forward suddenly--]
--Discharge!
Imagination: Since they're apparently in a party now (?!???), I get to write this here! Sol shoots a bunch of fire arrows from his hand, and they land near the left goblin's feet. Most of them just hit the ground, burning the grass around it without it catching, but one of the arrows does pierce its foot. The goblin screams and falls down on its knee...!
Sol uses this chance to dash towards the goblin on the right. It seemed to have taken this as its cue to Get Away ASAP, and Sol will try to stop that from happening.
[Cobalt would really love to stop and scream about how cool that was but he's on the job right now.
At Sol's signal, Cobalt launches forward with Quick as a Wink. His sprint speed is about 70 mph, and while he doesn't have the distance to achieve that here, he's going pretty fucking fast by the time he intercepts the goblin. He swings the axe like a baseball bat directly at the goblin's neck at 4x speed, with the intent to decapitate.]
Everything goes perfectly at first! Cobalt's movement is fast and perfectly timed-- but it turns out to be too fast and too perfectly timed to account for dumb luck. This goblin just happened to rest its whole weight on one hand on a patch of burned grass that was still too hot, so it lifted its hand in pain without taking its own balance into consideration and fell hard on its side exactly when Cobalt swung his axe at him. How, we don't know. But that sure was a thing that happened!
Anyway, this goblin was blissfully unaware of Cobalt's presence until it fell and heard the zing of his axe at 4x speed slashing at the air, but the third goblin did see what he was doing! and is now running towards him, with the intention to catch him off-guard and slash at his arm to maim. Of course, he won't catch him off-guard anymore, Cobalt has his speed ability and I just gave him a heads-up! But the intent is there.
[HEY it turns out his hypervigilance in the dark is good for something, because he detects that goblin coming, boy howdy!
Still using super-speed, he's going to rush the second goblin and swing his axe at max strength, attempting to chop him in an exposed place before the goblin can prepare an attack of his own!]
The goblin is ready to attack, but not to defend. Cobalt's swing slashes at its shoulder and chest, and it snarls in pain and anger, thrusting its sword blindly at Cobalt. Luck is on its side as well, and it successfully draws blood. Sorry about your shirt, Cobalt, it's now torn at your right side... It will also be painful to move, but at least the pain is not incapacitating.
The second goblin is healing itself while the first one does this. Soon it will be able to back on its feet.
Your Life decreases by 300.
Cobalt!! Are you okay?!
[Sol was done and about to hurry back to his side, but. I rolled a 1 for this, so now he's engaged in a different fight with a newly arrived, bigger goblin who wasn't supposed to be here.]
[Between the adrenaline and his very high pain tolerance, the wound doesn't slow him down much. And if they can heal themselves, all the more reason to double-down and not give this one have a chance to undo Cobalt's work! Don't switch goblins mid-chop, as Mom always said.
Cobalt attacks the same goblin again, still at 4x movement speed, aiming for the side of its chest that's holding the sword arm.... but this time, TWAS I THAT ROLLED A 1]
The goblin takes one step back, effectively dodging Cobalt's swing! And while it's doing that, it holds its sword out to see if it's lucky and Cobalt accidentally hurts himself with it ?????
It works... Quick as a Wink is apparently a double-edged... sword.
Your Life decreases by 150.
Meanwhile, the second goblin is done healing itself and can stand again. It is, in fact, getting up and will be joining the fight in the next turn!
The second goblin is mobile again, so Cobalt needs to inconvenience this current goblin as fast as possible. Now that he's apparently parried the goblin's sword with his own damned body (HE MEANT TO DO THAT) there's an opening. He swings his axe at the goblin's throat with his full strength and ROLLS A 6!]
Cobalt gets a critical hit in and the head just... flies away, rolling in the air, now there's blood here blood there blood everywhere. The rest of the goblin's body is confused but falls on the ground soon after, and starts to dissolve into particles of light!
This is the other goblin's chance to attack, though. It kicks Cobalt (ouch, that was his wounded side) and then takes a stab at him, digging its dagger deep between Cobalt's shoulder and his arm.
Your Life decreases by 300.
[Meanwhile, there's the sound of a very heavy body falling on the ground not too far away. Not that Cobalt can afford to look, but.]
[The goblin was made of light! That was unexpected, but sure! Why not!
Then he gets kicked and stabbed, which feels pretty not great. With one hand, he grabs the goblin by the arm that's stabbing him. Now (theoretically) the goblin will have a harder time pulling back to stab him again or otherwise wield the dagger to defend itself.
With his other arm, Cobalt swings his axe at the goblin, but his momentum is thrown off by the whole Being Stabbed thing, so he only gets a 2.]
The goblin keeps trying to get away but guess who rolled another 2... So it keeps taking damage steadily from Cobalt's axe, maybe by next year it will die!
...Or maybe sooner, because by now Sol has made it here and he got a 6, so his sword shines brightly right before piercing the goblin's neck too fast for it to even notice he's there.
Needless to say, the struggle is over after this. There are no more goblins around!!

Ah, but I'm totally okay! You're looking a bit rough, though. What happened? Are you hurt? Whose blood is that? [Looking at his clothes]
