Hallucinations - Gadget
On one is your unit, crowded around Intensity, his tall form visible above everyone else, but everyone else is there too— You can see Angel's wings, her back facing away from you, the distinct pastel of Song and Silence's hair, the glow of Medusa's mask, the messy mop of Shine's hair, and Shark barely managing to keep her footing away from the edge. It's not quite big enough for all of them, and the only thing that's making it big enough is the small saving grace that you aren't there.
On the other, the Phantom Thieves. All dressed as they did at home, masked, but you can tell who they are. If you weren't panicking, it might be nostalgic, but you're panicking so it's not. You want to save them.
But you can only save one group. You want to save all of them, but you can't. The longer you wait, the less safe this is. They can only stay still for so long, watching you. Your heart beats faster, panic and anxiety spiking as you shake. Good thing you're not there, or they'd all have fallen off already, with you shaking the platform beneath them. Instead you're in here, the lights of computer displays all around you, and you can only watch on the screen. You're so selfish, aren't you? You might as well end it quickly, but you can't choose. You want them to live!
But that's not an option you have, you silly girl.
The computer reminds you of this with a printout. Analysis of their usefulness complete. There's a readout in your hands.
There's two buttons. You need to pick one.
But it's hard, panic overtaking you. Your blood pounds hard in your veins, and you're aware of your vision swimming through the haze of an oncoming migraine. Your head is searing with pain, throat closing up. You're not even in danger, like they are, and you're doing this to yourself. You gasp to breathe, dropping the read out and start clawing at your throat but nothing happens other than your fingers scrabbling at the surface, uselessly. You cast about, looking for something to make the panic stop, something to save you, as you suffocate and flounder uselessly.
There is only, still, the screens, the readout, and the two buttons.
That's all you have, you and your useless headache that you can't think straight through, you and your useless throat that can't even breathe.
Your hand comes down, heavy, as you more or less collapse against the button. The decision made, your closed up throat begins to open up again, and you can breathe, though your head still pounds.
You'll remember which one you sacrificed. Even if you tried, you're not going to forget their screams, or the eyes that stared into the camera, hoping you would save them, just before you didn't.
