you can feel it watching you.

whatever it is, out there in the dark, its eyes burning a hole in your skull. its presence overwhelming. it chips away at your mind with its endless hunger, a bottomless void desperate for something to fill it. perhaps it thought you would be enough.

you're never enough.

you never stood a chance, you know. nothing you could have done would have prevented this outcome. but there's no point in dwelling on the past, not anymore. there's nothing left for you there. maybe once there was, but you already fucking ruined that for yourself, didn't you? so keep moving forward. you can't die, you're not allowed to die. that fucking thing would sooner burn this city and everyone in it to the ground than let you perish.

you have no choice, so make the fucking best of it.

you enter a wing with multiple doors lining the hall and leading to small rooms. each of the room has a nameplate on the door.

the first one you see reads:

NAGANO, NORIE

there's another smaller plate below it, in red, that reads

[ DANGER! DART FIRST ]

all of the nameplates read similarly, the others having higher numbers, and a good handful of them have additional plates as well.

[ MOM HOW COULD YOU!!!

He doesn't care about any of these doors!! He's going to wait tensely at the door he was just pushed through, listening for any sound of a fight or some other sign that someone's coming through that door after him ]

calm down you weenie she's coming in right after you.

in any case, the creature doesn't follow them in-- it hesitates at the door, watching, but just continues past.

[ make him!!!

which she's doing just by following him through, so. good job. ]

Who was that?

"Yayoi. She's... fine, usually. Probably hungry, though," nychta says, uneasy.

but she sits against the wall, and huffs a breath.

"Anyway, here should be fine for a while."

For now.

[ He sits down beside her, leaning against her a bit ]

We need to get out of this place though.

she doesn't respond, for a long moment.

"... there's no way out of here."

Then we make a way.

she stays quiet at that; silent but for the steady dripping of that liquid.

Nychta. I have three sedatives and enough scalpels to turn the next person I see into a pin cushion.

Even without those, you and I can tear apart any idiot foolish enough to try to get between us. And I was able to command that doctor to shoot himself with his own tranquilizer.

We will get out of here. We cannot be stopped.

she doesn't respond, but does rumble a bit, lowering her head towards him.

[ Leans up to bump his forehead against hers ]

Come on... There is no way I'll accept you remaining here. You feel the same about me, right?

"... of course I don't want you to stay here," she says, rumbling. but definitely lowers herself enough so he can do that.

Then it is settled. Escape is the only option we will accept.

a slight nod. "... what now, then?" she asks.

There's a few options. We could attempt taking a hostage, but I assume they have protocols for that. I could command someone to give us directions to escape, and then we can make a plan based on that information. Perhaps lure someone to the employee exit...it would be simple to command them to open the door for us then.

nychta stares at him, rumbling uneasily. "What hostage?" he says. "Everyone here would sooner kill us-- if it means they survive, what do they care? And there's no... employee exit, I don't even know what that is.

... I guess we could try to go to Wild City. But I don't know how to open that door."

The idea behind a hostage is that we would kill them if they do not do as we say, but Wild City would be a superior option...

Where is the door?

"Only one you could maybe try that with is Annie," she says. "... but fight with her, and she'll win."

she goes quiet again for a moment before continuing, "The door in Sensei's-- Ogata's office. I was trying to get in before, when he caught me."

Is it locked now? Maybe there's a key in his office...or I could attempt to pick the lock.

she nods... then shrugs, looking more troubled than before.

after a moment she pushes herself up onto all fours, and slowly wanders down the hall. "I don't want to go back there."

[ Gets up to follow after her ]

Because of that man...?

"He never stays dead long," she says, rumbling.

she seems to be pacing more than anything else; do you look around?

Is that so... Then we can consider that a last resort.

[ Well at least that means any keys he had probably aren't lost for long. ...he is going to eye some of the other name plates on the doors, looking for anything that stands out as familiar or out of place ]

you look through more of the nameplates and see a few of the labels:
