Requiem's Ideal World run #1

Oh. You have a text-- wonder what that's about?
...
...
?
Hey, there's some junk in here that's not in the right spots. Take a good look around and fix that jazz. Everything's got a place or whatever.
No sense in hiding from yourself, right?
... what is this, a text for ants?
Re: marcy's bedroom
Opens it. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
something about this really hurts, and now that you've touched it, you can't stop thinking about it. you want to stop, but... it's not really that easy.
this doesn't belong here.
Re: marcy's bedroom
Don't like this, actually. Her tail lashes a few times before she hastily shoves the flowers back into the box, wrapping it up again.
. . .
But after a long moment, she drags it out of the closet. Evidence. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
Re: marcy's bedroom
She'll check if there's anything else in the closet that gives bad vibes, but if not . . . she'll move on to the desk. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
In the corner of Req's room, next to her bed, is a desk, absolutely covered in... stuff. The corkboard hanging on the wall above it has loads of pictures: a dark-haired and dark-skinned girl with Zraels in a family-style photo, plenty of individual photos with various Zraels past and present, a handful messing around with a yellow dog and a boy in a bear hat, a good handful of other friends and loved ones... the list goes on. There's so many they're starting to overlap.
On the desk itself there's a little tablet screen and a recording station, with tapes piled up around it, haphazardly labeled with permanent marker.
The tablet seems to be a touch-screen video player.
Re: marcy's bedroom
She glances through the photos (maybe taking note of the Zraels she doesn't recognize, which of these fuckers is Pharaoh), and eventually makes her way to the recording station.
What are the tapes labelled? ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
Also a bunch of songs, and stuff like "audio journal #4555."
Also, Nemesis has arrived up the ladder. Play nice, kitties.
Re: marcy's bedroom
[ Look.
There's no way she's NOT hunting for her tape and playing it.
(Nemesis who) ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
Re: marcy's bedroom
I'm looking for proof this place isn't perfect.
[ She looks up long enough to glare, and then slides the box with the bouquet over to where Nemesis is. ]
You know anything about that, princess?
Re: marcy's bedroom
... the track is very quiet, a little fuzzy. But after a few seconds rises the unmistakably raspy rumble of Sabre's purring, and a soft laugh that reasonably matches Req's voice, but nothing else spoken. But just listening to it makes you feel an affectionate warmth, comforted.
Nemesis, you recognize the dried bouquet immediately. After all, you're the one who left it at Zrael's door.
Re: marcy's bedroom
...And?
1/2
A twinge of anger manages to derail her from any embarrassment at the sounds coming from the tape. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
. . . It gives a terrible feeling when you're near it. This is the kind of proof we need to snap her out of it. Stuff she can't ignore or deny.
Re: marcy's bedroom
We don't gotta like. Take everything from her new life outta this place that's from her old one? That's what the text was saying, ain't it?
Re: marcy's bedroom
It said -- everything has a place. And this stuff- [ gestures at the desk ] -doesn't feel like it doesn't belong.
So I doubt it's everything.
Re: marcy's bedroom
[She looks away, glancing over the stuff on the desk again]
Anything else here got your kitten senses tingling?
Re: marcy's bedroom
Re: marcy's bedroom
Re: marcy's bedroom
She's picking a numbered tape at random and sticking it in, dealer's choice. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
But first you pop in the tape labeled "journal #5992...????"
Req's voice comes in almost immediately.
I'll get into the music later. I wanted to start keepin' a journal again-- figured Bonnie would appreciate it, eventually. Said it'd be like a piece of history, like, yeah, okay, but more importantly my voice? Like, sentimental value? C'mon, girl.
Anyway... Kitty's gettin' real good with that guitar. Keep sayin' she should play a set with me, the fans would love it, but she's all shy about it or whatever, or says work's too busy. Which, yeah, I can believe that, Bonnie's kind of a tyrant, haha. But she'd totally give her the day off if she asked...
Oh-- yeah, went out with Pharaoh today since it'd been a while. Still as noisy as ever-- starting spouting out about how his kingdom was coming along, blah blah... Always the same thing with him, but it was fun to hang out. Invited him over for Zrael movie night soon so hopefully he remembers...
It continues on much in the same vein. Literally just a journal, it seems.
Re: marcy's bedroom
She shoots a glance at Nem before taking it back out. ]
Re: marcy's bedroom
...Uh, anyways. What about this one?
[Digs out the tape with the scratched out label, and pops it into the player]
Re: marcy's bedroom
"Look, this-- YOU took this picture! Ugh, you scribbled all over it...
... huh?"
Silence, for a moment, before an elderly man's voice excitedly speaks up:
"Oh, oh, are they good lyrics? I'll get the keyboard!"
Requiem frantically calls after him, "Wh, what? Wait-- listen!"
Electronic keyboard notes start playing in the background, and the old man says, "Yeah let's go, what's it say?! Sing out, sister!"
There's a long moment of silence before Requiem begins to sing with a slightly wavering voice.
It hurts. To remember, to realize, that someone you loved isn't the person they used to be. That they hurt you and left you alone when you needed them most, but... what else could they have done?
