[Looks around, warily; what are these people]

[While she'll continue to look around, she'll keep moving for the castle unless someone stops her...may as well rip the bandaid off]

They're candy people, geez.

As you wander, you see that some paths go beyond the castle, deeper into the city.

You enter the castle to find Hurricane leaned against the wall inside, laughing while he chats with a very pink woman wearing a tiara. Both of them seem to be dressed mostly casually, but Hurricane with his weapons strapped to his hips.

[They're friendly and chatty, that's the problem,]

[A brief pause, then Nemesis continues forward, jaw set. She probably should seem less like she's ready for a fight, but uh]

[...Anyway, what are they talking about when she interrupts?]

Bonnie's gesturing excitedly; she seems to be talking about some detailed mechanical thing that failed SPECTACULARLY, with tons of weird terms, and Hurricane's laughing at her explanation and offering some tips himself.

"Oh-- hey dude! What's up?"

Hurricane straightens up a bit when he sees you. You can see he's got some slight protective gear around his forearms, and a badge shaped like a candy swirl pinned to his shirt.

The Princess smiles at you too, warmly. "Nemesis! Good afternoon."

[Ah, nerd stuff. Well, appropriate]

...Hey. Just--taking a walk. You guys ain't up to nothing special?

"Nah," Hurricane says. "PB's basically got me on sleep detail."

"Being an attentive knight is still very important," Bonnie says, then pauses, relenting with, "but yeah it's been totes snoozeville today."

"Is it usually all that different? We ain't at war with nobody, are we?"

"Of course we aren't," Bonnie says. "Usually it's just junk like monster attacks or some dillweeds trying to jack my sweet science junk."

"Yeah. So, maybe they finally learned something. Can't you guys engineer a fence or something to keep 'em out anyways?"

"Geez, there's a whole barrier and moat 'round the place, way to criticize my kingdom designs," she says.

Hurricane pipes up, grinning, "Most of those beasties are bigger than the fences anyway. Like that giant we beat up the other day."

"Sounds like you need a bigger fence, then. Or more missile launchers." She smirks. "If you need some help, you can always ask."

"PBBBbbbtttttt. Stick to your sword-stabbin'," PB says, as Hurricane laughs. "I've totally got blueprints for some sick missile launchers in the works."

"Finally coming up with some good stuff...it's about time."

Her chuckle fades, and she looks around. "Hey, there anything else going on around here...other than it being quiet, I guess? For example, stuff what feels...weird, or wrong?"

They look at each other. "Wrong...?" Hurricane says thoughtfully, then seems to remember something.

"Ah, yeah. I found this recently; ain't mine and ain't one of the candy peoples', so maybe you can find something better to do with it." He removes a tiny journal from his pocket and hands it over to you.

“Where’d you find this...?” She takes it and looks it over—gives it a casual flip through.

"Just out while I was doing my rounds."

When you pick the journal up to flip through, you find it's empty, until a yellowed flap of paper falls out, looking older than you might expect.

You unfold it to read and find that it's a page of... obituaries? haphazardly glued together into one piece; every mortal friend, family, or lover Requiem has ever known is listed here, having lived a full, happy life and died peacefully and surrounded by the people they loved.

Reading it makes something deep in your chest ache, but you desperately want to push it away and pretend it doesn't exist. ... this doesn't belong here.

There are so many...

With a breath she stuffs it back in the journal, and stuffs the journal into her bag—not far enough but...hopefully far enough to not have to feel that pain, though there’s a separate ache at having to give these back at some point...one that she’ll have to deal with later.

Eventually, she turns back to the others. “Uh—thanks. I know who this belongs to.” She looks around the square again. “I’d better keep moving... You had any other giant troubles or something you need looking into?”

Hurricane seems happy to have helped! He says, "Thanks dude, I knew you would."

Bonnie seems contemplative for a moment, before turning to Hurricane and saying, "Actually, could you run the perimeter for me? Make sure the Guards aren't just playing cards or nothin'."

"Oh, sure?" He pauses a moment to close the gap between you and him, so he can tug you a bit closer by the arm and press a kiss to your cheek and say, "See you at home!"

And then he's off.

Bonnie waits until he leaves the castle before turning back to you, with a frown. "So you realized, huh?"

Wow, everyone in this world is a menace... Nemesis clears her throat before looking back to Bonnie proper, making sure she understands what she’s hearing. “I did? —I mean, I did, but you did?”

"I've got like, crazy science brains, of course I did."

She shrugs, with a lopsided, awkward smile. "It's a nice dream, right?"

Looks at her, and then looks away. “Yeah, it is.“

She shifts again, also awkward. “You...Ah. You guys made up?”

"Oh, totally."

She pauses, then gestures to the door Hurricane went through. "Would you be jealous? The part of this dream that's you means you're as happy as she could manage to make you, as well."

Considers; goes a different tack instead. “...And the way it’s all set up, she’s happy with that, too?”

Gestures at the location. “Like—some things’re pretty obvious. But other things seem kinda...funny.”

"Funny how?"

"Like... Howcome she's got like seven girlfriends and don't live with none of 'em? If this's s'posed to be some kinda paradise, why not go all out? Why's the city look all super evil? I ain't even been there and it's all villain clouds and stuff. And that's where she works? Like--trying to ditch bad memories, I get that. But the other stuff don't make sense."

She takes a breath after all that, folding her arms around her middle and bowing her head. "I don't wanna ruin her happiness--any more than I already have. But--is she really happy here? That's...what I gotta know before I do anything."
