princess maker - pep!pep!

[ When you insert the key and open the door, you'll find inside the room looks small, cramped, just one living space without any doors—you can hear noises of the bustling life outside, as well as other people beyond the thin walls. the space bends on the walls, and a basket sits on the table in the center of this studio room with a blanket folded into it.

Inside, a baby stirs restlessly - you hope she goes back to sleep soon, and you play your flute in hopes of lulling her back to sleep. Unfortunately, a sharp knock sounds from the ceiling - the tenants upstairs don't like what you're doing. You take a more drastic measure, singing softly to your baby as you rock the basket back and forth and hope the tenants don't complain again. ]

-

[ Slowly, the scene changes, fading in and out with various silent scenes—the baby cries, and in turn, the upstairs tenants knock at your ceiling again; she finds her way to your flute, tooting happily though no noise comes out; a little toddler, she becomes attached to a stray cat; you decline her request, and she storms out to run away for a little while as you regret; she returns, covered in cat hair and ignores everything you say; then the wall becomes opaque. ]

[ In the corner of the room, a young girl the age of 10 crouches, looking away from you. she holds a cat in her arms, petting the creature constantly.

You wish you could have done better for your baby girl. But, this is what you love to do and maybe you'll get a gig that pays well enough that you two can move out of this shithole - hopefully. You tried your best to rear her, but with how infrequent you're in the house, working odd jobs in the day and performing at the pub at night, you're not sure anymore. You know she is capable of anything if she puts her mind to it - even becoming a princess - but you also know it's not easy to become a princess, and she's horribly equipped for any of that. Then again, if anything your little tyke is tough, and if anyone could be a rags-to-riches princess, it would be her. Thankfully, you've emergency savings - for her schooling, of course. You have a lot of regrets, but maybe it's not too late. ]

She is a strong-spirited child! Good for her!

Still, should we go the well-rounded route or not fight against her nature?

Personally, I think a more rounded education will give her future the most flexibility. I want to equip her with the tools to do whatever she wants with her life, and not be hindered by a lack of anything. What do you think?

Well-rounded then. It seems most of us are in agreement.

Since she's already very diligent, we could split her time fifty-fifty between culture and math/science... that would at least show us how much progress she gets out of each class, so we can plan the rest of her school accordingly...

Make sure you leave room for those free periods.

Right! Yes! She should definitely get a chance to pursue her own hobbies and find something she's passionate about.

Do you think there might also be time to just, like, hang out with her? Like, parent-child bonding stuff. Playing games together, and exploring, or building things... We haven't always been there for her, but I think it's important that she knows that she's loved.

Sure! The flute lessons are only one part of that since it's us enjoying something we both love. But we could always read to her or go to the park and stuff like that.

Yeah!! Stuff like that is so important. How can she learn to care about others if she doesn't feel cared for, herself?

I'm glad we all get to go to the festival together, too.

Yeah, that looks like a fun time! So maybe 6 sessions of free time, 6 classes each of STEM and culture and 4 of martial arts? Or 7 classes each of STEM and culture and 2 martial arts?

[Scratching head] Well, she's behind in both charm and intelligence, but her rebellious attitude means she won't take to her culture classes very well... which means, to make things balanced, we'll have to weight her classes more toward culture, I think?

[getting out a notebook and starts doing some math]

We have 54 classes to schedule, right?

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] we_meet_again 2018-09-29 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see... uhhh... so she currently has about four times more diligence than charm or intelligence, so we should probably give her at least four STEM classes for every martial arts class, I guess? Does that sound right? And then the same amount of culture classes as STEM, except more to make up for her temperament...

So like... a ratio of six culture to four stem classes? What do you think?

[Scratching some math out]

Uhhh so what about something like this:

24 culture, 16 math/science, 4 martial arts, 8 free time (4 for her hobbies, 4 for human relations.) Uhh that still leaves two classes left over, I dunno where they should go.

Is that too many in martial arts? We can reassign that time to other courses or free time, instead...

Re: DISCUSSION

[personal profile] malignstar 2018-09-29 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe just bump STEM to 18 or give her 10 free time.

We could do both if we poach a little from martial arts.

[updates the numbers to the following:

24 culture, 18 math/science, 2 martial arts, 10 free time (5 for hobbies, 5 for human relations.)]

How's this?

Ummm... I'm not good at this stuff, but isn't diligence the one that would get increased most right now? Shouldn't we focus on that, and getting her temperment to fair if we want to try and balance things?

Ooohh yes okay, I see what you mean!

[Listening to everyone's (sometimes offscreen) contributions and editing numbers

Ok if we make this more balanced... but also stack points on martial arts...]

Alright, how about 11 culture, 14 math/science, 21 martial arts, and 8 free time?
