Good morning, newly departed guest stars! You've got new co-stars to meet, a new dorm to explore, and the television in the main room with the "names" of everyone in your unit with flashing empty boxes next to them, waiting for you to each assign yourself a personal color as well as a mythological creature (if that is available to you—some of you will have that option grayed out). Or assign them to each other, really, no one's stopping you.

Once you've chosen your color and creature (or, once it's chosen for you), your closets will unlock with 3 sets of traditional Japanese clothing fitted exactly to your size. Additionally, upon choosing your creature, you might find yourself suddenly with some new appendages (check Player Notes).

Also, the front door is currently locked. It looks like you actually have no choice but to get to know each other for an hour or two before those open up. ]

The only one who's an idiot here is the one who thinks we would need or want to let the other teams know.

I don't think we need or want to let other teams know. I just think that by declaring a position with another team, we'd be doing that involuntarily. We have the word of one person to go off of on whether these people are even trustworthy. Seems unreliable, if you ask me.

It can be used to keep information from others.

If our choices are to go into this with a potential alliance or nothing at all, our odds are still better with the potential alliance than with nothing at all.

Yes, but... as I said. That would be impossible to keep quiet in a game. If you want to be so friendly with a bunch of people you don't know, by all means, but I'd rather not risk my neck on the word of one girl I'm not even friends with. I don't see how our chances are any better with an alliance. If anything I think it just paints a target on our backs, whereas without one we have no associations to anyone and can use that to our advantage to do whatever to whomever we want. If we made an alliance, then we'd have to be friends with their friends and that just puts all sorts of limitations on us.

How does an alliance paint a target on our backs? We're not telling anyone but the team we're making the arrangement with. Unless they want to make it worth our while, we're not taking care of their friends, either.

If we go in with no allies, we can expect to be targeted heavily by other teams if a more violent game comes into play.

Situations like this involve long-term politics, and those living here permanently will have connections already to the other long-term teams. We'll be marked as expendable by the long-term teams because we're outsiders, and we'll be targeted by the other short-term teams because we're their direct competition.

If we want a chance at a game like that, we need an alliance. More than one, if we can manage it. It's not being friendly. It's going in with the deck stacked in our favor.

Whatever you say, kid. I do think it's cute how you're so invested in this, even if you're going to end up paying dearly for it. A piece of what is probably going to be unwanted advice: don't be so trusting, unless it's in yourself. You'll live longer. I feel almost bad how naive some of you are.

I'm just smart enough to play the odds when it has a chance of helping us win this.

Why not just kill them and anyone else who gets in our way? Wouldn't that be a better way of ensuring our victory, if there's no competition?

Do you seriously not understand what an alliance is? It has nothing to do with friendship.

It's about two groups mutually using one another because it's beneficial.

I do understand what it is, better than you think. I just don't see why we need one. Maybe if it'll keep you kids alive, I guess I'll stop harping on about it, but you're not going to get out of this all as good kids, alliance or no. That's not how this place works. It's Hell, isn't it?

We need points. Losing games gives away points. Anything we can do to stack a game in our favor is going to help mitigate that. If we go in without any kind of plan, we will get slammed because we're expendible.
