[ When morning comes, you find yourselves more than freed from your rooms—you're completely kicked out of the mansion. You may access the twin garden mazes, encouraged, even—there are alcoves in the gardens with flowers wrapping around the gates that are to your unit's color, and upon entering them you'll be able to speak to your unitmates without fear of being overheard, as though there were some sort of soundproofing barrier. You may only enter your unit-specific alcove. There are also plenty of other non-unit specific alcoves for you to enter and converse with someone, but it won't be entirely private—these pockets don't have soundproofing. Players should comment to relevant private threads that are being eavesdropped.

But before you run off to discuss, you'll want to gather around the fountain (mind the executed bodies). Its water's stopped, though rather than any stillness in water you can instead see . . . murder.

The details of each murder, as well as the rules, are available on your phones, and in fact, that and the photos app are the only things you can access on your phone right now. Your powers are off too, although you were allowed to bring whatever items are ordinarily on your person—provided they aren't any weapons. ]

It's a reasonable assumption, and we don't have a lot else to go on. Mayhap we could find out where they claim to have spent the night? It could be that at least one of them is doing the same thing we are.

Yeah. It don't hurt to ask around, some.

Do you happen to know anyone on the guest units? Do any of us? Such questions would be better from a friend than from a stranger...

[She hesitates. Heaves a sigh.]

Oh, listen to me. I'm acting like this was really a crime.

Right?

Like... kinda makes finding out whodunnit feel bad when really the only reason anyone dunnit is cause they got bad RNG.

And all that happens when we make our choices is we sacrifice another unit, too. And then we feel satisfied, because they're guilty--

I suppose 'tis what they hope for. That we'll forget the game is rigged and none of us chose to play it, and get lost in the playing...

I can't believe they got me that easily!

[Stupid. Stupid, Alisaie! That's all it took: a puzzle to solve, and the feeling she was somehow doing right...

[Thal's golden balls she's been a fool.]

And of course it's the temporary units. Of course it is! They can't form alliances so easily. They can't protect themselves so easily. And on top of all that, they've got their freedom hanging over their heads!

I mean, I ain't surprised it's a temp team that got voted out round one. That's all I'm saying.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did it. If they had nobody to meet up with, or even to coordinate with, and felt they had to go armed simply for self-defense... that would be all it took. That and a chance meeting, and ill-fortune.

Even we went armed, and we were the ones who were trying to get people to take it easy.

Whoever does whatever, it's all chance anyways.

Precisely. What we might have intended has nothing to do with it.

Forget everything I said. I don't actually want to solve their stupid mystery. The only thing that matters is protecting who we can.

You sure?

[scattershot]

[She nods.]

I almost forgot who was truly responsible. I won't let that happen again.

[Hesitates, then reaches out and offers his hand]

...c'mere. Let's go sit down for a few.

[scattershot]

[It's Alisaie's turn to hesitate for a moment, then she cautiously takes his hand.]

Where do you wish to go?

I dunno. There's gotta be a bench in this maze somewhere, right?

I got a couple snacks on me. We could take five.

[scattershot]

That's not a bad idea. We'll think far clearer if we decompress a little.

[crossmyheartandhope]

Yeah. So...?

[Takes a step toward the way out of the fountain alcove]

[scattershot]

[She follows.]

It's a shame. This would be a nice place to visit, had we been brought here for any reason aside from this.

[crossmyheartandhope]

[Poking into the next alcove over]

Yeah, well.

We don't really get nice stuff for nothing. So.

I presume someone appreciates the irony, but it's lost on me. Do you think anyone can sit here?

They ain't stopping us, right?

[There's no bench, but he just plops himself down on the ground]
