It's been quite some time since breakfast, hasn't it?

The smell of blood grows stronger as you get closer.

The scene that opens up is... quite simple, really. You see a figure hunched over something - it's the bird-Levity that brought you here, but he seems to be unaware of your presence yet. Did he forget? His shape still flickers between human and robot bird.

And what he's bent over is Levity - or rather, his corpse. The earlier thuds and shuffling seem to have been him moving the body around to dismember it. And what you can see of his wounds has... something of a gnawed look.

As you watch, the bird-Levity picks up a strip of meat carved off Levity's chest, tips his head back, drops it into his mouth — no, beak for that moment.

[ fuck powers being off

staring at the scene, frozen—he grows paler and paler ]

[ don't be sick. don't be sick. don't think about the smell. don't think about the smell. don't think about how you haven't eaten in weeks and powers are off so you're feeling the repercussions of that now. ]

Levity-san.

[ firm, in a loud voice, announcing his presence ]

The not-Levity turns around, clearly surprised to see Lucifel.

Blood on his face, and another piece of meat in his hand, but he doesn't seem to see anything strange with this.

[ trying to figure out how to articulate what he wants to say—taking a few breaths first, and a step forward

finally, he settles on: ]

The bird-Levity does not seem to understand the question, tilting his head confusedly.

He glances from Lucifel to the corpse, then back to Lucifel.

There's a kind of cheeriness in his tone. Almost like he's... offering to share?

these are metaphors, usually. and maybe he just wants to be able to hear what bird-levity is saying

pales a little more and shakes his head ]

[ with a pause ]

[ nodding to the corpse ]

Bird-Levity looks at the corpse as though seeing it for the first time, then shakes his head.

"█̹̺͈́͒͝█̥̻̜͒̂̀.̧̧͎̠̯̈́̏̓̕͞ ͖͠█̼͙̭͍͉̥͛͆͌̆͂͝█̧͔͙͗́̌̕͟█̢̜͔̪͎̤͚͆̏̋̏́̐͝█̭̪̪͊͗̇̀ͅ█̧̞̩̭̝̿̃̌͆̾█̧̮̣̊́̈́͐͟.͖̩͔͎̥̾͐̇̔͠"

Then, with some effort:

Then—who are you?

Must you eat him to survive, however?

His expression grows a little sadder as he strokes the side of deceased Levity's face, brushing his hair in place.

"gone. this way... a part of me."

He looks up to the sky, at the gathering clouds. There is the endless sound of the surf, but the rest of the world is silence - hot, oppressive, waiting for the storm to come.

"and the end is coming. and it has come. and i keep what i can. so we can remain. worn down, like rock to sand..."

[ breathes in a little. studies the corpse, for a little while longer. ]

Is there any way I can help you, to keep him?

He looks down at the corpse, then... reaches inside the slit abdomen to delicately pull out the liver and hold it out to Lucifel.

"help... keep safe."

[ to his credit he does not flinch but he does stare at it for a moment or two before taking the liver into his hands, thoughts a cross between the conflict of eating another person (again) and the desire to help, however he can, if he can ]

Alright.

[ takes another breath, before opening his mouth and biting down the organ, to take as big a bite as he can—he doesn't chew much, swallowing as quickly as he can while repressing a shudder, before biting down again ]

Bird-Levity watches him a little curiously at first - he does not seem to understand the hesitation or some of Luci's reactions. Then he nods gratefully, going back to pull out a length of intestine, slice off just enough that he can feasibly put in his mouth - it helps a little that his shape phases into the bird again; much simpler to eat it all like that.

Once Luci is done with the liver, bird-Levity gives him a questioning look.

"do you... keep helping?"

Would you like some more of this all-you-can-eat Levity buffet.

[ he's going to finish the liver before he talks first.

no nevermind he can't talk with all this in his mouth. holds out his hands instead. ]

Bird-Levity brightens up at that, nods, and goes to dip into the corpse's abdomen again, this time pulling out the spleen and offering it to Luci. Friend helping! For his own part, Birdity has a lot of lesser intestines to go through still.

[ this is so much and he's gonna die

taking it wordlessly, almost eating it automatically now. he

is going to hurt so much later. he hasn't eaten in weeks. this is so bad for him ]

But that's another step closer to Safeguarding The Levity! Next, bird friend cuts into the chest cavity of the corpse, then reaches in, gently pushing other viscera aside as though looking for something particular...

There's a soft snip and he withdraws his hand, arm bloodied to the elbow, and almost reverentially offers Luci the heart.

In the far off distance, there is a rumble of thunder.

—is it—

[ with a little gasp, from how much he's eaten ]

Is it alright—for me to have this—? Isn't it . . . the most important part?

Birdity gives Luci a worried look - is friend okay? :( But nods at the question. It's alright indeed!

glancing to the storm in the horizon, before bringing the heart up to his teeth and biting down.

Bird-Levity looks up at the coming storm again, too. And it does seem to draw closer and closer, but moving as though a succession of images, not a real thing. Blink, and it's closer still, dark clouds filling up the sky like the towering waves of another sea. The rumbling in the distance grows louder, threatening to reach you soon, soon...

"the end. our end."

He sounds... resigned, but not particularly sad. Birdity combs through the dead Levity's hair one last time, pulling his clothes over him to cover up the wounds as much as possible, and simply settles down on the sand to wait, eyes locked to the sky.

"will you remember?"

[ looking to the storm for a little longer, before looking to birdity and levity. with a thickness to his voice, still swallowing down the heart ]

. . . Yes.
