[ Your unit-colored kitchen has all the basic necessities for cooking, but strangely, there's no refrigerator. There's just a table full of pebble-sized crystals. . . There are candies available in bins next to the crystals as well.

Though you can technically turn the stove on, you can't actually hurt yourself on it. It's like the flames are illusions. Huh.

Upon entering your unit-colored kitchen, you'll find that you can't see or hear anyone from any other kitchen. You're aware that this whole area is magically sight- and sound-proofed; no other unit will hear or see any conversation you have. ]

Um—it'd probably be a little bit easy to talk about... the, um—mistletoe game? But this is kind of a get-to-know-you exercise, isn't it? And that doesn't really tell you that much about me.

So, let's see... ah, on one of my first days here, I ran into a man who was buying memories at the little café, and he was upset... because something really bad had happened to everyone he cared about in that memory, and it felt like it was his fault, for trying to do something clever. I was worried, so I talked to him a little bit, but...

it was a little frightening, because he shouted at me—but I knew he wasn't really... shouting at me, exactly.

...um, it's embarrassing, a little [ a lot ], because I feel like I overstepped, there, in trying to be comforting as a stranger—after thinking it over, I think he... needed to feel sad and angry at himself, rather than having those feelings go away. I felt like I should have understood him better, though, and the feelings he had.

...ah, well. It did dissuade me a little bit, or at least... I was definitely unhappy about it, and it's still embarrassing, but... trying to understand other people is really important. Even if I wanted to stop, I shouldn't, I think.

They sure can! It's hard to process sometimes. And depending on the person, they might struggle to understand how they're feeling about it already, much less when someone's trying to talk about it with them. But that kind of thing probably comes from familiarity and experience.

Sometimes there isn't a right answer.

But I don't think you were wrong for trying. And that person... I'm sure he must appreciate that there was someone who cared, even if he was still dealing with the emotions of the memoiry.

I'm sure he doesn't. We all have bad days, but usually... there's something to look forward to later, at least.

Either way, try not to feel too bad about it all. I know if I was having a rough time, I'd like to know that someone cared enough to at least check in on me, you know. Otherwise, it would be like no one cares at all, and that can't feel good.
