So? Do you need to like or respect other vampires to be proud of being one yourself? You can despise them, even look to eradicate them completely if you want. If they are so concerned with acting like humans, doesn't that just make you better than the rest of them as well if you embrace what you are?

"I wonder if I should feel bad, though. People keep thinking they should be responsible for me."

I think we both would count as people. But otherwise you are correct. I suppose half-demon is rather close to a vampire, easily mistaken as human, nearly human, yet distinctly not. When you say "people" think they should be responsible for you then, do you mean humans?

"Nah, it's vampires. People don't usually notice me, but the kind of vampires that try to be like humans. I guess they're not really people, either, but they're trying, so I figured they'd like that."

...I suppose they want to protect and teach you, a sense of pity for a child.

But why should you feel bad for them feeling responsible for you?
