Having a dragon partner is a pretty good way to get over that.

...seriously, how many of you guys are going to ask that? You really think Hiccup would subjugate dragons?

Its a name for a group. What would you suggest? Dragonteers?

Ah. Maybe it could.

[ or it'll worsen it, but he's not really going to start a fight in a world he doesn't understand yet again. ]

I didn't say that. I'd just call it an alliance, if we're meant to try and be partners. Maybe put a call out for suggestions later if it keeps coming up.

If things go right, it usually works.

Pretty much just been a thing with you guys. Which is weird when Hiccup is the one introducing you to the concept. You know, the guy with more then one boyfriend and girlfriend, and yet we all know hatchet to his head, he'd choose Toothless.

We say dragon rider, everyone knows who we are. If the partnership isn't equal, we don't let you be a rider.

It's not personal! It's— ah, well, it doesn't really matter, does it? It involves a long story, and I'm not really here to waste your time.

[ he looks aside. ]

If it works for you, it works for me. Tell me the ground rules, what I need to know.

We're the first dragon riders. We take our reputation and our work seriously.

Well, ground rule number ones that your dragon partner is your equal. Not your slave. Not some blessing from on high. There may be thousands of dragons like yours, but that doesn't matter. Once you have a partner, they are yours, and that is everything.

[Stormfly has moved over as Astrid talks and lightly headbutts her shoulder.]

[She looks over and her expression softens, and she scratches her under the chin.]

[Then hardened again when she looks at Kitsu.] If you're still questioning what being a dragon rider means by the end of your first week, then....well, honestly, by that point, your dragon will have probably dumped you into the ocean. They can pick up that sort of thing.

Disarm. Any weapons. Meet a dragon who hasn't been with humans a while with a weapon, and you're gonna lose something.
