[ Above you, you can see a hatch with a lock on it. It's big and close enough that, if opened, you could crawl inside. ]

[Valor kinda wants to protest, but he feels wobbly and feverish enough that sticking up for his pride when death by drowning is becoming increasingly imminent feels stupid. so he just nods, handing her the crowbar and shoving the book in a pocket for safekeeping.]

[ taking the crowbar, but also picking him up by the legs. up you go ]

[ok. well. that saves him the trouble of having to balance.

he unlocks the hatch and shoves it open--it takes a couple tries, as his limbs aren't very cooperative--before trying to pull himself up and into the hatch.

...Mercy might need to help him out there, since--again, limbs not very cooperative right now, he can't muster the strength to get himself up and through the hatch, though normally it would be well within his ability to do so.]

[once he's through the hatch, he'll reach down to offer her a hand up]

[ taking it, pulling herself up into the hatch ]

You climb through the hatch, and...right into the cistern. The slippery floor and your unsure footing (due to hatch climbing) lead you to slip right into the water, where you are carried out with the current, bashing against brick all along the way. This leads to a slide which deposits you back in the main room of the basement with the key, but was it really worth it?

Slip slip slide what a water ride!

VALOR and MERCY are taken for a ride and suffer the following:

- Pulmonary edema (difficulty breathing, fatigue, coughing up water)
- Broken limb
- Internal bleeding

[Valor makes one attempt to sit up, winces when he realized he tried to push himself up with a broken arm, and then flops back down onto the ground, heedless of the blood and water. lying here seems like a good idea.]

[gingerly sitting up again, careful to use his unbroken arm this time. and then handing her the key.]

[ she's going to go take the key to the door and try unlocking it then ]

[kicking the nearest bit of corpse through the doorway]

A hail of darts flies from hidden slots in the walls across from you! Like the one earlier, they don't penetrate very far but they are on fire. Very painful!

MERCY and all idols who are not alert enough to drop to the floor or move out of the way suffer the following effects:

- Severe burns
- Dizziness
- Feeling of something being wrong/out to get them
