Yeah. That's what was making that rattling sound. Do you know what it is?

Yeah, I do. [ Amie picks it up gingerly. ] I don't think I'm used to using one, but it's not hard. It is very dangerous though. This thing can kill someone.

[ She demonstrates how to aim, pull back the hammer, squeeze the trigger, and uncock the gun if needed. Very sure about how it works but she's holding it awkwardly. And her tone is more serious than anything she's expressed until now, by far. Almost official. ]

I'll hold it for now, but if you need it then at least you'll know how to use it. In the meantime, we can keep looking around, maybe?

[ Viatrix follows along the gun use and safety lecture dutifully, apparently listening faithfully to the whole thing. She's not certain she could use it herself, but it's important to know. ]

Mmm. There's quite a bit more in this room than the last couple. We should try to search it thoroughly.

[ On that note, Viatrix starts looking the robe in the room over for pockets that might have stuff in it. ]

Carefully. Okay! [ And the chipper demeanor is back! ]

[ She's as good as her word this time, and starts by looking at all the various papers and notebooks that are scattered around. Scanning for anything that might seem of use so she can report back. ]

There are three clippings. ”28 now missing under mysterious circumstances.” ”Who Lives In That House on the Hill?” ”Reports of Cthulhu-esque Monster in Local Lake”

Hidden beneath the clippings was a carrot. Huh.

The first notebook is empty, except for one page at the back: "do it for her".

This notebook is filled with scribbles in such bad handwriting you can't read anything in it except the numbers "666". There are cute doodles though! whoever owns this notebook has been practising drawing anime eyes, and cute faces turned slightly to the left.

This notebook is filled with different pentagrams and magic circles. One one page, which has a sketch of the same pentagram you woke up on, has a scribble in the margin, "if they're gone by daybreak, so's all this hard bloody work"

Inside this notebook is a coupon for a book called Warlocking For Dummies, and a lime green post-it note with "STOP LOSING YOUR KEYS!!" written in big letters.

[ Anyway, moving on to the fridge. Anything to eat in here? (Or anything else but with these two food is always good.) ]

There's a couple of things in the fridge. The first is an unopened bottle of five gallon of whole fat milk; the second is a tiny tub of some medicinal-smelling salve. But perhaps more importantly, you can see another door set into the back. A secret passage?

[ Secret door secret door! Let's move all the fridge stuff and open it. ]

[You squeeze through the fridge, the passage just large enough for a slender adult to crawl through without knocking over the five gallon bottle of milk or the small tub of medicinal-smelling salve, and find yourself staring at a cavernous staircase.]

[ First she is going to pick up the medicinal thing, because this place be full of weird shit. But yes, she is five foot nothing and 90 pounds soaking wet so squeezing in there and up the stairs along with Viatrix! ]

Hey, over here! There's a door to a staircase!

I was looking for food honestly. But I also found medicine! I think that's what it is. It's a salve.

It's hard to say exactly what the salve will do just from looking at it … but if you happen to smear it on an injury, you'll find that it has healing properties! It's potent enough to completely heal minor cuts and bruises, and take the edge off of anything worse.
