Mori's heart

All at once a rainbow of bright lights feels as if it is bursting through you. It is an intense experience, but not an unpleasant one. As the colours burn through your skin, and lighting begins to spark through your veins, you feel stronger, you could take on the world right now.

Faintly in the distance, beyond the iridescent light show that overwhelms your vision, you can just about make out some silhouettes, but they’re too blurred, too indistinct and too far to tell anything about them. You can’t see them, but you know they’re welcoming you. You’re wanted here, you’re needed here, and the light is guiding you where you’re meant to go.

Even if you think you have things to be grateful to some part of Mori for, I haven't done anything for you."

You know, I’m pretty new to having friends, but I’m pretty sure it’s not all about what you can do for me.

"You're the one that brought it up." They grumble, shrugging their shoulders.

You do a lot for me, but I think this is one of those times where I’m supposed to be the one doing something for you. It’s not fair if I’m always taking, you know? Of course I want to be there for Mori too, but I can’t if you keep these kinds of things to yourself. I always get to see nice Mori, I never get to see anything else.

"Yeah, because you're real interested in being friends with me like this." They snap sarcastically.

I am, actually. It makes you more human. Nobody is happy all the time, I know I’m definitely not peaches twenty-four seven.

...Hesitantly raising his head.

"...What, you didn't think I was human before? You've seen me unhappy plenty of times."

Of course you’re human, just....This kind of feeling is a big deal. And I’d like to know about it and know how I can support you. I’m not gonna run away because I’ve seen it, you know? It wouldn’t make me think less of you or like you less or make things weird and I’m not gonna pity you for it. I know Mori is strong enough to deal with it in his own, but the nice thing about having friends is that it means you don’t have to.

That is a lot of support and he draws in on himself, unsure how to deal with it.

"...I'm not really going to jump if that's what you're worried about."

I know you’re not, Mori is smarter and stronger than that. I’m worried because you’re up here alone.

"Yeah, well. I'm the kind of thing most people want to shove out of the way."

[Shrugs slightly]

You're a part of Mori. I wouldn't shove you away, I don't think anyone else would either. It's hard when people you care about hurt and you want to help make it better, but I don't think anyone wants to shove this side of you away. Feelings aren't inconveniences or problems.

Sometimes...at least for me...I'm not really good at comforting people, but I want to help. So if I've ever said or done anything clumsy...it wasn't trying to shove you away.

Suddenly shifts closer, stricken, trying to find the right words to say.

"That's not - don't take it that way, that's not what I mean - you haven't, said anything... like that... Mori has never felt shoved away."

I'm glad.

"Yeah, well... Good. Don't start thinking weird things."

I won't. See? Even now, you're helping me.

"That's pretty low standards for helping."

Maybe your standards are just too high. Or rather, I think Mori is definitely very hard on himself.

"I'm not - how is this helping you then, huh?? What's so good about it?"

Mori is selflessly reassuring me about something I worry about even though I'm supposed to be the one doing the reassuring here! I was really nervous, you know! But at the end of the day, all Mori's are Mori, so I wound up being really comfortable anyways. Do you even know how great you are?

He is BLUSHING. How dare you.

"I-If you were nervous then it was because I made you nervous, isn't it? So any reassurance is something owed, not selfless. I'm not that great."

Nope, any nervousness was my own bad. I was worried I'd make things harder or worse for you, but then I remembered Mori is stronger than that. So....sorry, but you're still very selfless. And you are definitely very great.

I don't like many people, so for me to like Mori...you must be kind of a big deal.

Blushing increases, hunching over and trying to hide away.

"That's too much! You're too much! You can't just say all that to me...!"

Why not? It's definitely the truth. And I like being honest with you. So it's fine, isn't it?
