[And then she skates back around the building, summoning up a cocky grin]

Hurricane remains where he is, hidden but within range of you.

Hierophant turns to focus on you, and looks unamused, huffing. "Oh, you. Should have known. What are you even wearing? You look like a scrub," he says, then pauses, and continues, "I don't know what you think you're going to accomplish here by killing us, you know."

You can see Nemesis Turn the corner behind Hierophant, drawing her sword, but looking nervous.

--Excuse you, I look great in this. And I'm pretty sure what I'd accomplish is that you'd be gone, and the True Heart can return.

...What d'you mean, "us"? That just a royal "we"?

Hierophant sssiiiiiighs. "We, as in the vampires, you dink."

Nemesis looks at you for direction. Sword??? Yes??

[Gives a tiny shake of her head, thinking aloud]

Yeah, but... Look. Marceline's a vampire, right? And you...you're part of her too, right?

[She skates closer to Hierophant, points at him, frowning]

I've seen your memory. You're like a super douchebag and I'd love to punch that smirk off your muzzle. But... If I just come in here and hate on all the vampires, that's a big part of her that I'm saying is bad and has to be killed off...right? So... Yeah, no.

He lifts his head to look down his nose at you (even though you're taller), tail lashing. He grimaces.

"A touching sentiment," he says. "Your human emotions are truly something else."

And he lunges forward, swiping a claw at you-- just enough to barely catch your cheek, for 1 damage.

[Flinches away, then--

Clucks her tongue, less mad and more disappointed. But doing her best to seem like there's a chance he can do better! She rolls CHA 18, so maybe he will feel properly shamed]

Bad kitty! Didn't anyone ever tell you things go easier when you try being nice? Now, tell me where the True Heart is, this's dumb.

He doesn't seem so much shamed as annoyed, and he lunges for her again-- misses entirely, as Nemesis smacks her sword against a trash can, startling him. She starts to approach, calling out with some nervousness-- "Nem, what're you doing?"

He whips back towards you, though, growling. "If I knew THAT, I would have already eaten her."

.........Maybe not this time.

[This time, when he tries to approach, she'll punch at him, since she really does want to (it's a 19STR to hit)]

It doesn't take much. Just as the last one, he abruptly shatters into a hundreds of tiny pieces, and fades away, leaving only a vial of dark, thick liquid.

Nemesis finishes closing the gap between you, and Hurricane comes over too, staring at the vial. "... huh."

Nemesis says, after a moment, "... why'd you do that? Talk to him like that."

[Well

Now she feels kinda bad about it]

[Takes the vial, tho, and tucks it in with the other, and turns to Nemesis]

...I like Marceline. I care about her. And--and that means all of her, not just the parts that're easy to deal with and don't suck out your blood or whatever. I dunno if that's the right way to do it, you of all people should know about how bad I am with this sorta thing. And I wouldn't've let you guys get hurt. But...

[She frowns again, looking away]

You think it's weird?

"No, it-- it's not about us getting hurt, I just..." Nemesis frets for a moment, before Hurricane speaks up.

"... you're okay with all that? If she's-- like them, a monster? A murderer? You like her that way?"

[Shrugs]

I like her how she is. That's the only way I know her, so.

They're both quiet for a moment, and look at each other.

Nemesis hesitantly reaches for your hand again, while Hurricane says, "I don't... think... we really deserve you. Or. Deserve someone, who'd be willing to... overlook those things."

Why not?

[She takes Nemesis's hand, firm]

There's a difference between "overlooking" or ignoring something and just...accepting it. I know she's done a bunch of stuff before she knew me. Trust me, I'm not gonna forget something like that. But...

[Reaches for Hurricane's hand, too]

...There's more than just that, y'know? I don't wanna miss out on the good stuff just 'cause I worried about the bad stuff. And you shouldn't, either.

They're both quiet again, but after a moment, they each give your hands a squeeze, gazes lowered. Hurricane says, murmuring, "What about all the bad stuff we do here?"

[Looks down as well, pursing her lips]

Just...gotta take it as you can, right? Some of it can't be avoided. But some of it can, right? So...so long as you got some standards, like...harm reduction or whatever...it's okay...right?

Nemesis says, softly, "... is it okay? If I do something. Awful? If I hurt people?"

"I don't like it," Hurricane says. "I don't... want to, but if it's... FOR someone-- is it okay?"

[Slower, weighing her words much more than usual. Her grip on their hands goes a little tighter, though from her body language she'd probably have her arms folded if their hands weren't already joined.]

It's...hard to say that something like this's always okay or not okay... But sometimes you gotta protect someone. And sometimes that means people gotta get hurt. So even when it's wrong...it's understandable at least...right?

Hurricane stays quiet, this time.

Nemesis speaks, after an uneasy moment of thought. "Would you... still like me? If I did become like them? Like the other vampires."

How so? Weak to pine cones?

[If she does not at least get a smile--

...okay she'll 100 percent understand but still]

They both seem a little too uneasy for smiles.

Nemesis hesitates a moment, before loosening her grip on your hand, closing her eyes.

"Shouldn't ask questions you don't want the answers to," Hurricane finally says-- to Nemesis this time, and she shakes her head.

[grabs after her, or at least attempts to]

Wait-- Wait, geez, that wasn't even an answer and you know it. Just 'cause I had a dumb joke question doesn't mean it wasn't a valid one. D'you mean a vampire that only drinks blood? A vampire that goes around killing people for sport? A vampire that's a cat or has a really unnerving voice? If this's gonna be one of those talks then come at me, spit it out.

She lets you grab her, only a little startled-- Hurricane frowns, and is the one to speak up again. "Any of those. All of those. Would you be able to still like me after all that?"

But he doesn't wait for her to answer before saying, more gently, "You shouldn't, you know? ... if I ever get like that, you should take me out. Cuz if I can't even control myself, what good am I?"

[Frowns; she's not always the smartest person to begin with, and this isn't the greatest conversation topic. But still, she can understand this sort of feeling, a little, and it is deserving of a fully considered answer]

Would it make you feel better if I said I would? Take you out, I mean. Is that what you want, someone just in case you lose yourself...?
