Castle Game: Taisho Roman Revolution

[Suddenly, you hear the wailing of a horn. Outside, tension is turning to panic. You can't see anything, but you can hear people gathering up their things, sobbing in fear or speaking in harsh whispers. A lone voice calls from the distance:

The enemy approaches!

Upon the map, an unfamiliar geography appears -- several small nations, clustered together. Outside of them, an endless sea of enemy forces, identified only by a symbol of a cracked skull. Each of the small nations is marked with a flag in one unit's colour, and a tiny model of a castle.

You are at war. How will you protect your people and yourself?

We do not have to steal or gift any of our materials in order to keep ourselves safe for the time being. We can just use what we have and see what happens in the next round.

We do not know if the bundles we have will translate to points. Look at the map— all units are currently placed at zero, not three. Does this not indicate something about how we are scored?

Why would they not translate to points? It seems to me that the points will be calculated after the first round of decisions, and then reflect the current totals.

"In order to win the game and be completely safe, a unit must end the third round with a castle level of 10 or higher. As only 9 material bundles are given out throughout all 3 rounds, the only way for a unit to win is to steal or be gifted materials at least once, and each gift given makes it harder for the giving unit to win."

The number is high enough we cannot achieve it without a gift, should we refrain from stealing. It is a number perhaps a well-liked unit may achieve, but I do not like our prospects. Not with as many of us here as there are. I know none of them wish to do harm, but I fear they do not realize how grim our fate is likely to be, should we depend on others.

... I understand your fears, Shu. I also don't think it is very likely we will receive any gifts. But I feel it is too disingenuous to begin by stealing. It shows us as too ruthless, too much like Baritones, too willing to bloody our own hands.

And I am sorry, but I cannot agree to that.
