Castle Game: future is now

[Suddenly, you hear the wailing of a horn. Outside, tension is turning to panic. You can't see anything, but you can hear people gathering up their things, sobbing in fear or speaking in harsh whispers. A lone voice calls from the distance:

The enemy approaches!

Upon the map, an unfamiliar geography appears -- several small nations, clustered together. Outside of them, an endless sea of enemy forces, identified only by a symbol of a cracked skull. Each of the small nations is marked with a flag in one unit's colour, and a tiny model of a castle.

You are at war. How will you protect your people and yourself?

We tend to be one most of the time.

[unfortunately]

Should we steal from another unit to begin with?

I'd say start with two from different units. Unlike the last game, we can't eliminate people before the final round. And you can hit the same unit multiple times.

Regardless of our standing, we should steal three in the final round since that is when we were hit the hardest last time.

It might be different this time. As Erica said, if we end up not being targeted the first round at all, our level will look good enough for others to target us for it.

On the other hand, to play devil's advocate to myself—

[she giggles]

—if we do end up with five or even seven at the end of the first round, it doesn't matter how much they target us. We can steal enough to win.

I don't think that's a likely scenario.

That's what would happen if we stole two and weren't targeted. Though, I also don't think that's likely.

Aah. I would say steal one, to begin with.

If every unit can steal up to three per round, there isn't a number that we could obtain that would guarantee our safety.

Best to look middling. Like we might not be able to take a hit.

Silence is fine with stealing two.

Considering Left's last game, where we started off popping only one balloon when we could have popped three, this could end up just like that if we start off weaker than two.

I can be talked down to one.

But we should also figure out who to target while we make this decision.

Everyone should list units they don't want to hit.

I'm no for ZRAEL, BARiTONES, and Heart Soldier Senshi.

And would rather avoid hitting AlcheME! if possible.

[blinks]

The units I would prefer to avoid align perfectly with yours.

I would rather not hit AlcheME! if possible. Maybe Wild City.

I have no preferences. We should choose units we think are likely to receive gifts, but that will be more relevant in the later rounds when some units have some to spare and some are obviously needy.
bluescreenwhitedragon: ([Smirk] Mediocrity)

[personal profile] bluescreenwhitedragon 2019-06-19 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
My turn to play devil's advocate.

Let them amass many gifts. And then we and others will be tempted to steal from them later. Drawing attention from us.
thinkoutsidethebox: (m72)

[personal profile] thinkoutsidethebox 2019-06-19 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
That's not strategically sound as far as actually getting something from stealing. If a unit has already built up their castle, we can't take what they've already used. And if they're doing well, they might give away what they have, and we won't get anything. We should steal from units who have almost nothing, who are more likely to be sent a gift that round.

[personal profile] bluescreenwhitedragon 2019-06-19 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, we need to target those who we think will receive gifts.

Or who we suspect would never gift no matter how well they are doing.

Ideally the former.

I do not wish to hit anyone though I know it is not an option. I just wanted to answer honestly.

If I had to pick one unit, it will be ZRAEL I think...
