Pokemon: The Grassy Hill

There's only one way to go from the Laboratory, and that's along the lane leading down the grassy hill. On the right side, there's a small farm where those of you that possess rideable Pokemon can learn to do so, as well as a farmer who could use some help herding their Mareep, Tauros, and Miltank. On the left side, there are large meadows filled with fruit-bearing berry trees, an ideal place for picnics and outdoor parties.

Well, we haven't been able to hit the water attractions, unfortunately. But we've been most everywhere else at least to look around. What about you?

I think we have managed to see almost all of it. I had to hit up the onsen kind of early on, since I couldn't let Goomy dry out. [ rubs the back of his neck. this poor little pokemon has had nothing but problems. ]

[ munches on his sandwich. ]

It's been a while since we've been able to catch up, though things have been pretty rough lately, what with all the... games...

It's been a lousy time lately, hasn't it?

[ Charmander notes the shift of mood and begins starting to ply her with food--first a strawberry, and then a bit of sandwich. ]

Getting hurt and dying so much... the arguments... and then we lost Mars, Haku got transferred, too...

[ Even if it's supposedly temporary, she has Zero Trust. ]

[puzzlers]

[ o- oh no. he didn't mean to bring down the mood. n- not this much. ]

I, ah, I'm sorry, Hiryuu. [ he reaches out to take her hand. ] It's been rough, but... but we'll make it through this... together...

I know. You don't have to apologize--and it's okay, Blaze.

[ she pets him. He's a good boy. ]

It's sad, but--we have to keep going. If only so we can get them all back.

[puzzlers]

And we will get them back.

[ a firm nod. ]

[ sliggoo has come closer too. she can sense all the sads! ]

Right. But--we certainly won't manage to do it on an empty stomach, you're right, Blaze. Thank you.

[ She'll go ahead and accept the sandwich he's been trying to put into her mouth all this time. ]

[dragonheartedgirl]

[ After taking a bite and chewing in thought, ]

... You know, these guys are really smart. Like, people smart, pretty much. And they're powerful. I wonder if they're real.

[ Although at the beginning her Charmander was looking pretty pleased, that last comment earns her the most Affronted look from Blaze. ]

[puzzlers]

[ he has finished his sandwich by this point, though sliggoo is now heading toward the basket to look for something to eat. ]

We need to keep our bellies full and our spirits up. [ chuckles. ] Hn? [ looks between sliggoo and charmander. ] I don't see why not. It could be a special kind of creature from someone's home. Like we have cats and dogs and they have charmanders and sliggoos.

Goo. Sliggoo. [ she feels real... 'stares' at hiryuu. ]

[ Noting Charmander's and Sliggoo's looks, ]

Ah--sorry, I said something offensive, didn't I? I suppose--

[ She was just a little worried, about what might become of this place... later. When we're gone.

She was also thinking--they'd be extremely helpful allies if they could keep them at the end. But--that seems unlikely.

... But it occurs to her, just now, at the very last second, now that she's begun venturing down this road that maybe she shouldn't pose questions out loud that might cause these guys to have an existential crisis and/or panic about losing their masters? Or making Yugi panic about possibly losing Sliggoo after losing so many unitmates....

Time to. Hastily abort. She laughs nervously ]

I'm not sure what I was thinking. Maybe it's all this sun and heat getting to me.

[puzzlers]

No. It's a valid concern. I, ah, I mean most of the stuff in the other games... [ he trails off, since he's sure she knows where he's going with this. the people from the capitalism game weren't real. the armies in the castle game weren't real. s- so... it's possible that... these pokemon... ]

[ he had thought about it, but perhaps the realization hadn't sunk in that... sliggoo wasn't going to be able to stick with him forever. he stares at her and feels his chest tighten, his expression wavering, though he certainly does his best to look anything but upset. ]

M- Maybe. H- Hahaha. [ sets his hand on sliggoo's head and gently pets her. he ignores the subtle burning sensation each time his hand comes down on her head. it's fine, because it's worth it. ] How about we take a picture? I'd like to remember this day. [ musters a smile. ] How does that sound everybody?

[ Charmander is rather distressed that these humans are distressed and talking about things without really talking about them? So it's making it hard to understand. But... he definitely understands that something's not right. So he's decided to become a snuggle-bug. ]

I think a picture would be very nice. Maybe even a video?

[puzzlers]

[ sliggoo is interested in snuggles too, but hmmmm. she decides it's time to evolve!!! goodra is going to grab him and pull him into a hug BECAUSE IT'S CUDDLE TIME, FRIENDS. ]

GoooOoOOOdra!

oof. [ he doesn't even have time to be surprised as she tries to round up hiryuu and charmander too. ]

[ Hiryuu squeaks but is easily gathered in for a hug--Charmeleon, too, honestly. This was Unexpected. ]

She evolved again!

[puzzlers]

[ he's kind of concerned about the hug for a split second, but it doesn't take him long to realize that she's not longer toxic to the touch. this makes it easily to laugh. ]

She did! Goodra, [ looks back up at her. ] you're amazing! but, ah, ...do you mind setting us all down? [ whelp, looks like he's not the only one that needs a towel now... ]

[ Indeed, once they've been set down, Hiryuu is holding her arms away from her body and evaluating the slime that's already bedded itself into her uniform. It feels.... very slimy. ]

Ah... I understand now why you've been wearing raincoats.

[ GOODNESS. ]

Well, it's not like I wasn't going to need a good bath anyway.

[puzzlers]

I, ah, y- yeah. That had definitely been part of it. [ the other part had been she kept accidentally dissolving parts of his clothes. these 'shorts' used to be pants! ]

[ speaking of which he should probably go change... ]

Maybe we can head to the onsen or the bay. [ take a dip and clean some of this slime off. ] ...although I'm not really sure Charmeleon would enjoy that at all. [ for obvious reasons! ]

[ OMG his pants... ]

That would be nice.... Maybe it would be safe if we made sure he kept his flame out of the water and put a protective enclosure around it? Like a lantern....

[ Charmeleon snorts and--because of his constant expression, it's difficult to tell if that was a surprised sound, a derisive one, or a laugh of sorts. ]

[puzzlers]

[ a lantern would be really cute. ]

[ he looks to charmeleon though and, y- yeah, he can't really tell what kind of snort that was. ]

Charmeleon? We don't have to go if you don't want to, especially since it's got the potential to be dangerous. I, ah, don't mind being... slimed... [ hiryuu he obviously can't speak for. ]

[ goodra trills again, giving charmeleon and big, warm smile! ]

[ Charmeleon--slaps the ground with his tail. And then he hunkers down, straining and then--begins to glow. ]

Oh! Again!?

[ EVOLUTION? ]

[ The light grows bigger and wider, and so too does Charmeleon seem to--at least, Hiryuu suddenly finds herself needing to crawl back to give him more space. When the light fades away--there's a quite large orange lizard with wings.

Hiryuu's already got her phone out to check her Pokedex. ]

Charizard! Blaze, you've become a--

[ Blaze seems. unphased.

And just picks her up, as easily as if she was a sack of potatoes. ]

Eh?

[puzzlers]

[ both yugi and goodra take a step back as charmeleon's form seems to expand and grow. goodra claps her hands together happily, but yugi can do nothing but gape. ]

Woah...

Blaze! [ yugi finally walks over, sparing a chuckle as hiryuu is picked up. he just wants to get a better look at him. ] You have wings now! [ stating the obvious, but THAT MEANS HE CAN FLY! ]

[dragonheartedgirl]

[ Yes! Has wings, and he can fly! He can also scoop up a second goo-covered idol with his free arm.

He then communicates with Goodra in a series of booming noises before flapping his wings and--lifting off from the ground. ]

Blaze...?

[ Now is. Now is a time when she desperately wishes she understood... Poketalk... ]

[puzzlers]

[ and up he goes. ]

[ goodra nods her head as charizard tells her exactly where they're headed. he gets a gooey thumbs up and as soon as he takes off she starts running. she's a bit on the slower side, but only because she's so bulky. they'll definitely get their first, BUT SHE'S COMING. ]

[ being able to understand them would certainly make things easier. ] I guess we're going for a ride?
