The clock strikes twelve and everyone will find themselves inexorably drawn to a seat; the once-empty place marking now bears their name on it. The place settings and food items all vanish in a spray of glitter, and the In the middle of the tables what appears in their stead are--two fancy gold chests, one inlaid with red jewels and the other inlaid with blue jewels (neither of which can be opened yet) as well as what looks to be a game board and, of course, a single dice. The long, billowing curtains draw down around each table and--you'll find yourself unable to leave your table, or see or hear anything beyond it other than the background music which continues to play.

[and as he goes ahead and applies some nail polish, birds start to appear out of nowhere and perch on him]

it's a lovely pale pink. so far so good? except she gets some of it on her hand immediately, having to cough. ]

[ She rolls a 2, and kind of hovers her hands uncertainly over the jewelry box for a bit before settling on a bracelet and sliding it over her wrist. ]

...Okay, I'm decorated. Is something else supposed to happen?

[Glory moves three squares, landing on the space with Kohime. And—the flower thing that Shrike has seems uncomfortable, but at least only physically? So she grabs some lipstick and applies it.

And then moves around the table to where Kohime is sitting in Shrike's lap, and leans in to kiss... well, Kohime, to start with, since she's slightly closer.]

it doesn't seem to have any immediate effects]

[ a 4, so—she hovers over the makeup choices once again, and picks some rouge to dust on, this time, which makes this the healthiest she's ever looked apart from in the most recent monster bingo.

i mean and also she's still coughing, and getting increasingly irritable about it. ]

[ A memory: ]

"Tell me," she asks, after it is done. "What music do you hear?"

(She is sitting before you, hands folded softly in her lap, and everything about her is tired—wounded, somehow. But she is beautiful: short dark hair beneath a simple veil, moon-pale skin, and her dress a shroud of night.)

At first, the question makes no sense at all. But then, you try it—try to listen for a song, and you do hear it, then, like the whole wide world (the whole universe?) set to a melody. How had you never realized before?

—It sounds like cacophonous, discordant glory. How could a requiem (and it is, somehow, a requiem) be so shameless? The music is more than that, though. It says to you:

Hell is always with you. In those times when you were petty and small and twisted, only Hell was there. Hell is what loves you even when you’re wrong, even when you're bad. And it’s fire and brimstone and poison and rotting things, too. It’s a punishment ground and torment-realm at the base and bottom of the tree of the world.

Hell means that there is always something with you, even if sometimes it is horrible. You could tumble to the bottom of the world, forsaken of and by all other things, and still you would exist, and still you would not fall into the Not, because there is a Hell. And that is comfort and horror all at once: because Hell would be with you, with its poison and flame, even if you wanted to be alone; to finally cease to exist. But also, if you were lost in darkness, longing for goodness and light, at least there would be Hell at your side.

It is the baseline of the world. It is the darkness that reaches upwards towards the brightness. It is the fire that longs to embrace us all.

The song of Hell is made up of the fires that screwed-up people like to stick their hands in. It burns you, it hurts, it’s awful, but it takes you away from yourself. It makes your whole world about, are you really going to do this? Are you really doing this? Did you really just do that? People think that burning in a hellfire is about being strong, or hurting, or something like that, they tell themselves all kinds of stories about why they do it, but really it’s to break the world you’re living in and just be in the fire for a little while.

Hell honors and bears witness to the things that would otherwise be entirely unloved. It will come to watch you, to listen to you, to know you, if you are a thing so horrible and broken that no one else would dare. The work of Hell is to love whatever needs them most; whatever would, without Hell, be alone. Hell’s eyes are open to you. They will not turn away.

When you are done listening, you tell her of the song you heard.

Then, there is the very faintest of pleased smiles on her lips.

"Good."

[Snaps on a bracelet before reclining in her girlpile. Shrike can come along for a fun ride of muahahahahaha, I am the LORD and contentment and a general smug feeling.]

[ Harpy puts on a necklace, and whoever wants it gets to experience a memory

which was not written to include "actually experiencing it" details so extra notes:

- Harpy did not care about watching the fight, coming to watch together is just an excuse to be alone with Eiji
- she feels conflicted and contemplative and is wondering if she should feel guilty about something related to her last fight, though she doesn't actually feel guilty. the comment about firing the man aggravated the issue a little.
- even though she is a little bitter towards him he's also like a solace to her. she can show her frustration around him more, be a little more honest.
- every time she calls him "niisan" it's like a small disobedient taboo she allows herself, to lash out. he's beneath her caste but she sometimes respects him as a superior, which has become a spiteful act towards something other than him.
- something about "the only way to resist temptation is to succumb to it" struck her in a VISCERALLY unpleasant place so she just rejected it wholesale and played dumb
- she is in love with him.
- the color of his eyes might be starting to become familiar.

back in non-memory land, she is still kind of overwhelmed and distracted by focusing on Trying Very Hard Not To Kiss Kohime ]

She stares at it for a few seconds before involuntarily reaching to take the crown from Kohime's head and put it on hers instead. Which is fairly easy since she's still mostly in Kohime's lap.

She is the queen of the pile now.]
