Mori's heart

All at once a rainbow of bright lights feels as if it is bursting through you. It is an intense experience, but not an unpleasant one. As the colours burn through your skin, and lighting begins to spark through your veins, you feel stronger, you could take on the world right now.

Faintly in the distance, beyond the iridescent light show that overwhelms your vision, you can just about make out some silhouettes, but they’re too blurred, too indistinct and too far to tell anything about them. You can’t see them, but you know they’re welcoming you. You’re wanted here, you’re needed here, and the light is guiding you where you’re meant to go.

The bunny gives you THE SADDEST EYES as you step through the door onto the rooftop of Aldera junior high. A single notebook sits at the edge of the roof, burned and ruined, next to a pair of red boots.

A younger Mori sits on the railing with his back to you, facing out over the ledge.

He doesn't seem to notice you as you approach, not paying any attention to anything behind him. He grips the railing tightly, his whole body tense and wired.

He startles, whirling around to face Silver.

"What are you doing here?"

Wanted some fresh air. Wanted to see Mori. What are you doing up here?

"...What does it matter?" He asks, defensive, turning away.

"You shouldn't be up here. There's better Mori's to see, go look somewhere else."

I want to see all Mori’s. And it matters because you’re my friend. So.....what are you doing up here?

He shifts away, extremely tense.

"Nothing important."

Is that so? Then how about we do something else? Mori still owes me a picnic.

"This isn't a place for picnics." He grits, scowling. "Seriously, if you want that, go find a nicer version downstairs. There's plenty around."

"Why?!" They cry out, frustrated, ducking their head.

Because it looks to me like you’re having a hard time. And I’d like to be here because being alone doesn’t always help. Mori helps me a lot, but I never get to help you.

"What are you talking about?! You're the one who's always helping me."

You know, I’m pretty new to having friends, but I’m pretty sure it’s not all about what you can do for me.

You do a lot for me, but I think this is one of those times where I’m supposed to be the one doing something for you. It’s not fair if I’m always taking, you know? Of course I want to be there for Mori too, but I can’t if you keep these kinds of things to yourself. I always get to see nice Mori, I never get to see anything else.

I am, actually. It makes you more human. Nobody is happy all the time, I know I’m definitely not peaches twenty-four seven.

Of course you’re human, just....This kind of feeling is a big deal. And I’d like to know about it and know how I can support you. I’m not gonna run away because I’ve seen it, you know? It wouldn’t make me think less of you or like you less or make things weird and I’m not gonna pity you for it. I know Mori is strong enough to deal with it in his own, but the nice thing about having friends is that it means you don’t have to.
