Pokemon: Downtown
This is where people come to play it seems. The Battle Arena, where you can challenge your friends, rivals, or anyone really, sits side-by-side the town's Pokemon Center where you can get your Pokemon healed for free after a rousing battle. You and your Pokemon partner (even your entire unit!) can star in short plays to be aired at the movie theater or even beauty pageants showcasing their new hair-cuts and clothes. There's a karaoke bar, a small theme park, an arcade.

"XP?" What's that?
[ Charmander just snorts and looks smug like he Knows Something Intensity Doesn't. ]
no subject
[Which Intensity is insanely jealous about, tyvm. Even with the community one available.
Dratini on the other hand...
Lightly baps Charmander's tail with her own. Is that fire actually hot? Is it actually burning?! Inquiring minds want to know]

[ She could explain that the arcade was really more for the others, or that they don't.. have... video games at all where she's from, but. is there any point in explaining something a person can't fundamentally understand? She'll just focus on the other things. ]
What's an "RPG?" Is it like an "otome game?"
It is INDEED very hot. Charmeleon swings his tail away at the last second to keep her from burning herself and waves finger in a no-no gesture. Apparently, he wants a fair fight--with the both of them in equal good health.

[Opens his mouth. Closes it. Pauses. Wait. What now?]
Who on your unit is teaching you about otome games?
[INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.
Dratini deflates with a whiny Drati~ but nods. And (seemingly ignoring the two trainers), tries to loop her tail once around Blaze's wrist and drag him to the center of the battle arena.
Humans are talking. This could take awhile! Best amuse ourselves in the meantime]

She's not on my unit. Kaguya, on Taisho--she told me about them. But you still haven't answered my question.
[ --Yes. It's clearly going to be a while. With a grumpy snort he heads into the center of the arena with Dratini to find something to do while they wait. ]

Think of it like training, Your Highness. When you practice with your sword, you gain experience. You certainly don't expect to get better with your swordmanship without training, so why should pokemon get stronger when they aren't doing anything in particular.
[Dratini has beach balls from when she played dodge ball with another pokemon. Balances one on her nose before tossing it over to Blaze]
no subject
Blaze swats it back with a portion of his tail not covered in flame--an experimental swing, as he hits the ball neither brutally nor too soft. ]
Well, maybe it's a delayed effect. It's not as though we've been doing nothing today, after. Blaze has actually worked very hard today!
no subject
[Dratini trills happily, bouncing it back at Blaze! And getting another one and tossing that, too!]
no subject
What about this seems like a system to you? They're real animals, not video game characters. You can't apply that sort of thing here.
[ Oh ho! Blaze is practically grinning when she tosses over the the next one. He swats that back too--and then beckons with both arms, seemingly inviting her to throw both at the same time. ]
no subject
Also why would you want them to be if you know that within the confines of this "game" is where they exist?
[Dratini lines up three on her back, tossing them in random succession. Swing, batter batter, SWING!]
no subject
[ however ]
How would you feel if someone told you that you weren't real--and that as soon as these games concluded you would cease to exist? Would you want to think that your actions and efforts were somehow all pointless?
[ oh now THAT is a challenge!! Charmeleon dashes for the first ball, slaps it with a hand, slaps the second with his tail--and ends up headbutting the third. ]
no subject
Besides, isn't that more responsibility for you when you try to save everyone?
[Dratini trills with happiness. This is fun!
And glides around the arena (maybe even between Hiryuu and Intensity) in order to gather up the balls for a round 2!]
no subject
Maybe it's time to aim for the jugular. ]
Don't talk as though you don't understand companionship or loyalty or the feelings of another person.
[ She opens her eyes. ]
Weren't you the one who didn't want to abandon the dead--King to being dead? Would you be fine simply telling him to resign himself to whatever fate waits for him after Graduation?
no subject
Who t---?
[He stops himself for asking the full question though. Better late than never I suppose.
And then with no emotion whatsoever in his tone:]
If King can't save himself, that's not my problem.
no subject
shouldn't it be obvious?? she thinks so anyway. ]
You should leave lying to AlcheME. If you really felt that way, then you wouldn't have said we can't go through with the original idea.
[ Just bringing this whole place down. ]
If something happens to King, or any of us--that's all of our problems. Is it still really so scary to admit to caring about another person at this point?
[ you married him! on camera! ]

This idealistic notion that you are going to be able to save everyone and everything is going to be your downfall.
And the weight of trying to bear everyone's burdens is going to break you well before that.
