Pokemon: Downtown

This is where people come to play it seems. The Battle Arena, where you can challenge your friends, rivals, or anyone really, sits side-by-side the town's Pokemon Center where you can get your Pokemon healed for free after a rousing battle. You and your Pokemon partner (even your entire unit!) can star in short plays to be aired at the movie theater or even beauty pageants showcasing their new hair-cuts and clothes. There's a karaoke bar, a small theme park, an arcade.

[ Charmander circles Persephone a few times, trying to persist--until Hiryuu calls him over. ]

Come on, Blaze, we're going in.

[ She pushes open the door and ushers him inside, holding it open for Persephone and Ralts. ]

Your partner's very cute. Do they have a name yet?

Her name is, ah, Airi. [and follows after, through the door.]

Nice to meet you, Airi. I'm Hiryuu--this is Blaze.

[ The inside of the building would be darkened but it's lit by colorful neon lights. At the very front, there's a stage with stereo equipment and mics as well as a computer and a familiar TV screen--and of course, someone of is up there singing. ]

... Oh! It's like a bar, but for singing?

[oh. hmm.]

...I, ah, see. The, ah, draw would be the patrons singing...?

I think so. It looks like it could be fun--do you want to try?

I could, ah, try for a little while, anyway.

[ she's going toward the front of the room. ]

I wonder how they choose the mu--oh!

[ she spies a book on one of the tables nearby: it's quite thick, a binder really, and it says on the cover "Song Selection." Charmander reaches for the book and flips it open--revealing that each page is covered in tiny print with dozens and dozens of titles... ]

So this is how. Goodness, there's so many...

...that is, ah, quite a lot. And, ah, likely none in a style I know...

Me either. ... I certainly don't recognize any of the names.

[ she continues to flip through the pages. ]

We could pick one at random and give it a try? ... I get the feeling we don't have to be very good at it....

[ They've switched singers, and the person now up on the stage is--quite tone deaf. But nobody seems to mind? In fact, people are still clapping and singing along. ]

That is, ah, true. [Politely does not wince at the off-key singer] We, ah, could do that.

Let's try, then.

[ She looks to Charmander and Ralts. ]

Do you two want to help us pick a song? You probably know about as much as we do.

[ Blaze seems really eager--but he's looking to see how Ralts feels about it. ]

[Persephone whispers reassurance, and after a moment Ralts shyly nods]

[dragonheartedgirl]

[ Charmander clambors up on top of a nearby chair and then leans in to start turning pages--slowly, glancing up to Ralts periodically and chittering--apparently seeking feedback. ]

[eventually Ralts points at a title questioningly. whatever it is, it's probably like...cute, sugary j-pop equivalent or something.]

[ Charmander starts eagerly pointing and babbling up at them about the same

[ she'll go ahead and punch the numbers into this large phone like device; the music coming out of the speakers begins to change, picking up a new, bright, cotton-candy-like melody

and Charmander scampers over to the stage, pulling himself up by his chubby little hands and flailing stubby legs]

[Persephone hums a bit to himself, trying to pick up the melody, as he helps Ralts up onto the stage.]

[ Hiryuu sways her head from side to side with the same rhythm (it is, thankfully, an easy one it seems) while grabbing two microphones and passing one to Persephone, keeping one for herself--and then she's going to help adjust one of the tiny microphone stands for Charmander's height. ]

[takes the microphone and going to also adjust another microphone stand for Ralts, after watching how Hiryuu does it. kneels down by her and gives her gentle whispered encouragement, too. but also lets her know that she doesn't have to sing if she doesn't want to.]

[ charmander apparently needs no such coaxing. as soon as the opening bars of music give way to lyrics-- do do pi do do pi do do pi do!--he starts singing along-- 'dar dar man dar dar man dar dar man dar!' and

well

he might not be the best singer, but for what he lacks in skill he makes up for in enthusiasm and cuteness, swaying along. Hiryuu--between giggles--will go ahead and start singing as well... ]

[Ralts does not sing at first, though she sways along too. Persephone starts singing as well, after a moment, though it takes him a moment to catch the rhythm, so different from what he usually performs.

...but he is, nonetheless, extraordinarily, extremely skilled, his alto voice soft and sweet.]
