Heart Game: Talon

Was it this late when you stepped into the Game Tower...? Now the sky above is dotted with a few scarce stars, occasionally obscured by some light cloud cover drifting by. Most of the night sky has been washed out by the bright lights of the city which, by the way, is spread out far below the rooftop that characters find themselves on. There's a faint buzz on their phones. When checked, the screen shows a Game Notice:

1. Locate the True Heart
Or
2. Leave a Lasting Mark

The skyscraper towers high above the streets, easily dwarfing any other building in sight. The city is some dozens of stories below, and the sound of the wind rushing by is louder than anything that can be heard from the streets. Occasionally the wail of a siren pierces the distance, but it's easier to spot the lights of an ambulance or police car zipping through the roads than it is to hear them. If you look closely enough, and for long enough, you might notice figures in the distance leaping between buildings, sometimes in pursuit of a siren or with an emergency vehicle trailing in the distance behind them.

The roof itself is expansive—the building must take up the better part of a city block, judging by the space available up here. A helipad (sans any helicopter) takes up the entirety of one side of the roof, complete with what looks like a freight elevator for moving things from the roof further into the building. The elevator itself has a keypad lock on it, but a staircase entrance beside it has no obvious lock in place.

The rest of the rooftop is empty save for a small, hooded figure perched atop one of the parapets along the edge of the roof, feet dangling over open air.

[ OOC NOTES:

1. Powers are on. THIS INCLUDES CANON POWER SETS.
2. Characters may keep any equipment they had on them when entering the heart, but there is a risk it will be taken away during the run. However all equipment taken will be returned when you exit the heart.
3. Significant changes/damage to the heart will reset each time someone new enters an area for the first time. For example, if Bob kills the sentry at the entrance of the heart, the sentry will respawn for Sally when she arrives. This way everyone can experience the different areas.
4. CAVEAT TO THE ABOVE: exceptions made for anyone specifically going through the heart with a partner(s), or anyone who requests to react to damage that's been done. The goal here is to allow everyone to have fun in the heart at the end of the day. ♥ ]

[ Robin shrieks in rage, somehow managing to sound distraught and terrifying in spite of the fact that he can't stop himself from laughing. His eyes roll wildly in their sockets, and he fumbles frantically for another batarang. It's a struggle with the Din still ringing in his ears though.

Instead he draws his feet up and kicks out, trying to force Jay back and wind him all at once.

The trap door doesn't seem to have any new fun surprises. Maybe it's fine? ]

[he doesn't need to worry, Jay's not aiming to fight him, he's just aiming to get him out of the way. And the din is doing exactly what he wants it to do.

he looks to make sure Griffin can make it up to the trapdoor, and then glances back at the family he's abandoning behind him.

well, at least this feels right, abandoning them to their own devices.

Guess this is what happens after Bruce leaves, though.

[Griffin extends a hand to help Jason up, still keeping a watchful eye on the shop around him. After the gas fucked with his head, he's-- wired now. The cavalier attitude is gone and he's on edge.

The second Jason's up, he's gonna slam the trapdoor closed and try to lock it.]

[ The door shuts safely! The shop around them looks largely undisturbed. The shop clerk is still strung up on the wall, though a few of the robin feathers have drifted to the floor now. The scene outside seems no different than it did before; still a barren and empty street.

The only new addition is a poster in the shop's window, for some reason facing inwards. It reads "SMILE" in crisp white lettering on a bright green background. ]

[he's just going to smash that window in.

yep.

and then he needs to go find that voice he heard earlier.]

Fuck.

Wait, where are you going?

[Griffin follows, but he's eyeing the remnants of that green poster suspiciously now. ANYTHING GREEN SEEMS DANGER... do not touch.]

[ The sound of laughter follows them down the street, furious and menacing now

but it seems like now that they're free of the tunnel, this is the worst of it. If Jay's lucky, he might manage to catch Red Hood just wrapping up at the jewelry heist now. ]

There's someone I didn't want to talk to before, but now I want to.

[he's glancing over his shoulder.]

Joker isn't unbeatable like that. He's not.

I have that memory. Part of it. It looks like Talon's goes further than mine.

[but also it's obvious who he's going after now.]

[Why are there so many Red Hoods running around]

But he's still down there, right?

We're gonna have to go back eventually?

You can.

I can't.

[he says, furious.]

Except I can't without some kinda gasmask.

[He pauses.]

What's the plan, then?

I’m not going back. If the goal is to figure out where the brat went, that’s not the only way.

[Hrmph. Well, Griffin doesn't love it, but if it's not about revenge, then he's outta ideas.]

So... who's this we gotta see?

Me. Or Talon's perception of me.

Someone I figure knows what's going on and is right here.

Oh, the ol' bowling ball. This'll be a trip...

[he wants to joke back, but his mask is obscuring the glare in his eyes, as he glances back at griffin.]

Good ol' Todd.

Y'know, with all of you around, my face is really starting t'feel naked without a mask too.

[He has a look on his face like he's thinking, and that's never a good sign.]

[he glances back at him, and inclines his head just lightly.

it sure is hard to read his expression though.]

Why?

I bet you have a gas mask built into that ugly chrome dome, right?

You can't seriously be thinking that it's only a matter of the gas.

He's immune to my bullets, he'll just find another way to kill you.

Wasn't killing my family enough?

Pretty sure some of'em were still giggling...

[He huffs, frustrated and antsy]

You want me t'go back and check on'em? I can do that. How many vaccines are you packing?

I'd rather you leave it alone.

I don't even know what you killing them is gonna do to Talon-- make that memory worse? Won't make him forget it since he's probably the only one still giggling.

He already thinks the Joker's unbeatable.

Then what should I be doing, then? You've-- already got everything covered. I'm just in your way.

[Even if you're not aware of it. Jason's trained too well - and Griffin has full faith in him.]
