Pokemon: Downtown

This is where people come to play it seems. The Battle Arena, where you can challenge your friends, rivals, or anyone really, sits side-by-side the town's Pokemon Center where you can get your Pokemon healed for free after a rousing battle. You and your Pokemon partner (even your entire unit!) can star in short plays to be aired at the movie theater or even beauty pageants showcasing their new hair-cuts and clothes. There's a karaoke bar, a small theme park, an arcade.

The point of the game seems to be doing it yourself though.

[ picking up her eevee. ]

Does it have a name?

. . .Someone else called it "Marl".

It's nice to meet you, Marl! This is St. Germain.

[ he's fancy in his vest and bow tie, chirping a greeting. ]

[The Marill chirps back a friendly greeting to St. Germain, then repeats it to Yvette. Kohime just watches on, quietly.]

Did you want to get your picture taken too?

[ bending down to show it the photos of herself and St. Germain that just got printed out. There's sparkle foil hearts and stars Yvette drew in. ]

[purrrnicious]

[He prrts and jumps up and down, toddling back towards the booth.]

Okay, come on Kohime. Picture time! I can work the machine settings for you.

[purrrnicious]

––What? Me?

[tradesecret]

I think that's what it wants.

[ to the pokemon ]

Right?

[purrrnicious]

[Marril gives an enthusiastic response. Eeeeeveryone should be in the picture!



Kohime creeps over, her tail twitching, sniffing at the machine dubiously.]

. . .It just takes a picture?

[tradesecret]

A couple of them, then you go to the other side to decorate them and print them out. In the end, they look like this.

[ shows her. ]

[purrrnicious]

[Sighs. But oddly uncomfortable, if her body language is any indication. ]

Fine, whatever, let’s just get this over with.




[Marill is psyched, unaffected by the complete lack of enthusiasm here. ]

Okay, everybody in. Now, the camera is right here.

[ and there's a bright colored label there too. ]

These little guys can either be held, or stand up on the platform in the booth so that they're in the shot. Kohime, which would you like Marl to do?

[ she's not going to force her to hug a Pokemon if she doesn't want to ]

[purrrnicious]

Yeah, no, he can stand himself.

[There’s no way she’s gonna trust him not to get water on her. Marill doesn’t seem to mind, clambering (or trying to) onto the platform. ]

[ gives the Pokemon a boost and puts St. Germain next to it, so it won't feel lonely or feel inspired by seeing the eevee in Yvette's arms or riding on her shoulder.

Snuggle time for Marl! ]

There we go. The machine will give instructions, but just do whatever pose you'd like. Everybody ready?

[purrrnicious]

[Marill looks ecstatic, Kohime looks away, disinterested. ]

[ gonna push the start button.

"Okay, get ready~! First pose!" The machine says.

Yvette does the cute little heart with her thumb and index finger ]

Kohime, think of something that makes you happy.

[ maybe it'll loosen up her expression a bit ]

[purrrnicious]

[She mostly just looks surprised/confused at being addressed. Marill opts to jump up and down, wiggling it’s arms enthusiastically. ]

[ the machine counts down "3, 2, 1..."

And there's shutter sound. Marl is captured in midair and St. Germain sits primly.

"Great job! Next pose!," it says. Yvette switches to a idol-perfect hand heart ]

[purrrnicious]

[Marl’s enthusiastic hopping continues until he topples right off the platform, and Kohime instinctively catches him with a startled squeak. ]

[ st. Germain takes that as a cue to leap into Yvette's arms and she cuddles him while she laughs

The countdown and shutter click happen in the commotion.

"Great Job! Next pose!" ]

Oh my, that was fast!

[purrrnicious]

Are these things supposed to be so clumsy?!

[Dumps Marl back on the platform unceremoniously so his tail with its little bobber is sticking straight up in the air. ]

He's kind of round, maybe that's just how it is for him.

[ "...2... 1!"

Why is it even still going?

[Flattens her ears back while Marl struggles itself back upright, at least staying on the platform this time. ]

It takes a bunch of shots and then you pick a couple of your favorites to print.

[ it's counting down again. Yvette turns a Marl assist in into a cuddle with both Pokemon ]
