Heart Game: Talon

Was it this late when you stepped into the Game Tower...? Now the sky above is dotted with a few scarce stars, occasionally obscured by some light cloud cover drifting by. Most of the night sky has been washed out by the bright lights of the city which, by the way, is spread out far below the rooftop that characters find themselves on. There's a faint buzz on their phones. When checked, the screen shows a Game Notice:

1. Locate the True Heart
Or
2. Leave a Lasting Mark

The skyscraper towers high above the streets, easily dwarfing any other building in sight. The city is some dozens of stories below, and the sound of the wind rushing by is louder than anything that can be heard from the streets. Occasionally the wail of a siren pierces the distance, but it's easier to spot the lights of an ambulance or police car zipping through the roads than it is to hear them. If you look closely enough, and for long enough, you might notice figures in the distance leaping between buildings, sometimes in pursuit of a siren or with an emergency vehicle trailing in the distance behind them.

The roof itself is expansive—the building must take up the better part of a city block, judging by the space available up here. A helipad (sans any helicopter) takes up the entirety of one side of the roof, complete with what looks like a freight elevator for moving things from the roof further into the building. The elevator itself has a keypad lock on it, but a staircase entrance beside it has no obvious lock in place.

The rest of the rooftop is empty save for a small, hooded figure perched atop one of the parapets along the edge of the roof, feet dangling over open air.

[ OOC NOTES:

1. Powers are on. THIS INCLUDES CANON POWER SETS.
2. Characters may keep any equipment they had on them when entering the heart, but there is a risk it will be taken away during the run. However all equipment taken will be returned when you exit the heart.
3. Significant changes/damage to the heart will reset each time someone new enters an area for the first time. For example, if Bob kills the sentry at the entrance of the heart, the sentry will respawn for Sally when she arrives. This way everyone can experience the different areas.
4. CAVEAT TO THE ABOVE: exceptions made for anyone specifically going through the heart with a partner(s), or anyone who requests to react to damage that's been done. The goal here is to allow everyone to have fun in the heart at the end of the day. ♥ ]

[ That voice sounds closer than ever, and there's the sound of footsteps to accompany them now.

Also, that green gas has been spread throughout the air in light of the explosion. Jay might be alright with his mask on, but how's Griffin going to hold out against some good old Joker-produced laughing gas? Telling exactly who is friend and who is foe is going to get pretty tricky! ]

Now now, give me some credit! A good showman always primes the audience first.

Griffin, get back.

[he has no memory of ever really getting laughing gassed, but also, he knows gas is one of the Joker's favorite tricks. And he's not about to let some mystery gas get to him.

also he's just going to aim for shooting the joker in the fucking face.

no pretenses. no cold blooded revenge that felt only partly about him.

just, he needs to die.]

[Griffin's hand goes to his sword immediately, but-- it's hard not to breathe in any of this green crap in such a confined space. He starts to cough, but that quickly turns... to laughter...]

Hahaha, that's funny... You think I can't take care of myself...? Eheh.

[The telltale motorcycle rumble of his sword roars from behind Jason, and suddenly there's fire-- flames, all along the blade as it swings for his head.]

[ The smoke whirls around the path of the bullet, but there's no corresponding grunt of pain. It's almost as if Joker dissolved into the smoke itself to dodge the shot entirely. ]

Hee hee! Looks like your friend has got some other plans.

[they need to get out of there. but he's... extremely angry. Practically seeing red. just, he wants to rip the joker limb from limb-- because he knows this is bullshit.

and he's reaching into his utility belt and pulling out one dose of... something.

he kicks off the needle cap and grabs griffin's arm, pulling taut, and injecting him with the anti-toxin.]

Fuck you, Joker.

[he can be a sensible boy, and push Griffin further away from the gas, after the injection.]

[Griffin staggers back, sword still in hand but... the anti-toxin and gas were at war in his system, burning. He still couldn't stop giggling, but some clarity of mind was starting to trickle back.

Hoarse, he wheezes,]

Ehehehee-- W-what the fuck...?! hah... he-hee

Spoil sport!

[ All the humor is gone from his voice; he sounds enraged now. Like a child throwing a tantrum, but with all the menace and power behind it to actually do damage. ]

You are ruining the show before it's even begun!

You think I'd be stupid enough to not carry shit to counteract you?

[but he's going to keep pushing Griffin further away. he doesn't remember exactly how the anti-toxin works. he knows enough to know they need to leave, because the Joker has bullshit plot armor.]

Every time you win, it relies on surprise.

Talon might not remember that, but I sure as fuck do.

[Yeah, he gets it, get out of here. Hopefully without tripping any new traps, too. A few more coughs, and he's back to his usual form - and scowling, now.]

Shit-- I could've killed you...

[ Joker's voice is echoing behind them as they make their escape down the tunnel, but it doesn't sound like he's following them. ]

You haven't even seen what I've prepared!

[ Then...well. The Joker may not be following them directly, but something sure is coming. Several somethings, judging by the sound of many feet rushing towards them. Jay and Griffin had better come up with a plan quick, or get moving now. ]

[yeah. he's going to suggest getting gone]

Go.

[they need to take off. now.

he's going to be heading back towards that trap door! And dragging Griffin with him, if he has to.]

[Don't have to tell him twice. Griffin runs, but not before casting his own insurance policy]

Hold'em off!

[A wave of energy comes off him as his Feint peels out of him - only this time, it doesn't look like Griffin's double. It's a full fledged demon, curved horns and all, armed with a katana.

It dashes into the darkness, summoning swords that fire off all around him as it slashes, cuts, and tears through whatever forces are coming for them. Won't last forever, but it'll give them a head start.]

[ The forces that are coming after them are: a butler, and five separate, highly experienced vigilantes who are each unfortunately heavily under the influence of the Joker's laugh gas.

Nightwing and another of the heart's Red Hoods peel off to meet the Feint as it rushes at them, trying to buy enough time for the rest of them to slip by. Hood goes first, opening with gunfire at the Feint's feet to trip him up while Nightwing flips over his head, launching feet first at the Feint's head ]

[yeah, that tracks.

but that means--

he's gonna send a kyodoimos din at all of them behind him. good luck with dizziness and lack of hearing, fam]

[Really wish he could use Appel without Jason being paralyzed too. Mannn. Still hauling ass, ok.

Sorry, Griffin really don't know who any of you are, except the crazy Red Hood. It probably means you're all fakes anyway, right?

Nightwing's kick lands, but the hovering swords around the Feint fire to skewer him in retaliation. The second everyone is caught by the Din, the Feint recovers - slashing at them all like a wild beast in a frenzy. UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS fill the air around him with swords. It's a merciless onslaught, and he's not above maiming or killing.]

[ The combination of the Din and the frenzy of blades in the air is, in fact, pretty devastating! Nightwing's gone almost immediately, crumpling into a gurgling, giggling pile. The Heart's Hood fires off a few shots in a manic attempt at saving himself, several of which fly past the feint entirely, ricocheting off the tunnel walls (and only the walls, if Jay and Griffin are lucky.) Red Robin and Bat Woman make it further, wholly focused on trying to race past. They manage to stay upright by bracing against the cavern walls, but there's just no way to avoid that many swords.

Unless you are a small child with a butler willing to turn himself into a human shield for you. Robin stays low to the ground, determined and relentless even under the effects of Din and the Joker's gas. It doesn't hurt that he can simply spread his bat wings for an added boost of speed, racing down the length of the tunnels at alarming speeds.

He draws a batarang as he approaches, sprinting up the wall and kicking off to put more momentum in it when he slams the blade into Griffin's back as hard as he can ]

For fucks-- don't fucking kill them!

[Jason's going to shout-- ignoring Talon's stabbing. because he knows how this works.

He's just going to send another din at robin (with no butler to protect him this time), and curses under his breath, grabbing him by the cape and swinging him into the wall.

they need to get out.

the trap door is just ahead]

[A ricocheting bullet catches Griffin in side, and he bites back a hiss of pain as he keeps running.]

FINE!

[Light maiming then!!! The Feint doesn't go into complete overkill mode, at least. Just enough to make sure they're very, very down and out. Not that it has too much of a choice in the matter - Griffin can't hold the demonic form out indefinitely, and it dissipates into light once time's up.

Robin, though.

He wasn't expecting a kid to run that fast - or up a wall, to get at him. The batarang stabs deep into his back... healing his bullet wound... well. Cool.

Jason can deal with the baby brother, if he's so adverse to seeing his family stabbed. He's gonna sprint for the trap door and check for any more surprises that might've converged there.]

[ Robin shrieks in rage, somehow managing to sound distraught and terrifying in spite of the fact that he can't stop himself from laughing. His eyes roll wildly in their sockets, and he fumbles frantically for another batarang. It's a struggle with the Din still ringing in his ears though.

Instead he draws his feet up and kicks out, trying to force Jay back and wind him all at once.

The trap door doesn't seem to have any new fun surprises. Maybe it's fine? ]

[he doesn't need to worry, Jay's not aiming to fight him, he's just aiming to get him out of the way. And the din is doing exactly what he wants it to do.

he looks to make sure Griffin can make it up to the trapdoor, and then glances back at the family he's abandoning behind him.

well, at least this feels right, abandoning them to their own devices.

Guess this is what happens after Bruce leaves, though.

he's so fucking mad.]

[Griffin extends a hand to help Jason up, still keeping a watchful eye on the shop around him. After the gas fucked with his head, he's-- wired now. The cavalier attitude is gone and he's on edge.

The second Jason's up, he's gonna slam the trapdoor closed and try to lock it.]

[ The door shuts safely! The shop around them looks largely undisturbed. The shop clerk is still strung up on the wall, though a few of the robin feathers have drifted to the floor now. The scene outside seems no different than it did before; still a barren and empty street.

The only new addition is a poster in the shop's window, for some reason facing inwards. It reads "SMILE" in crisp white lettering on a bright green background. ]

[he's just going to smash that window in.

yep.

and then he needs to go find that voice he heard earlier.]

Fuck.

Wait, where are you going?

[Griffin follows, but he's eyeing the remnants of that green poster suspiciously now. ANYTHING GREEN SEEMS DANGER... do not touch.]

[ The sound of laughter follows them down the street, furious and menacing now

but it seems like now that they're free of the tunnel, this is the worst of it. If Jay's lucky, he might manage to catch Red Hood just wrapping up at the jewelry heist now. ]
